Vick's co-defendant charged with violating probation

RICHMOND, Va. - A co-defendant in Michael Vick's dogfighting conspiracy case, who was shot in the leg after a birthday party for the Eagles quarterback, has been charged with violating terms of his probation.

Federal probation officer Rodney T. Lang said in a petition filed last week that Quanis L. Phillips lied to him about having contact with Vick at the June party at a Virginia nightclub. Vick told his probation officer that he had spoken to Phillips that night. Lang also said in the petition that Phillips failed to report run-ins with police.

Vick also said Phillips tried to contact him during a football camp before the party. Lang says Vick "eventually contacted Phillips to request that he refrain from contacting him."

Phillips has been ordered to appear before U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson in Richmond on March 15. Phillips' attorneys did not immediately return a phone message last night.

In November 2007, Phillips was sentenced to 21 months in prison and 3 years supervised release for participating in the dogfighting conspiracy. He was released from prison in February 2009.

No arrests were made in the nightclub shooting, which occurred after Vick had left the party.
