Vick turned the trick

First, it is important to note that the Jaguars are a rotten team, playing in a lifeless stadium in a nondescript city. But, boy, does Andy Reid look the genius. Michael Vick was again amazing.

His passing accuracy statistics were nowhere as good as the previous weeks, but that's because his receivers dropped a few.

There weren't many times you could say he tossed an ill-advised pass. And he really has become comfortable in the pocket.

But just to remind everyone that he can still take off and run, Vick dashed 17 yards just before the end of the third quarter to give the Eagles a 25-point cushion.

Call that run Vick's exclamation point to the day.

Showing some 'swag'

Everyone in the stadium could see it coming. Everyone except maybe Jaguars quarterback David Garrard.

When Mike Sims-Walker ran a third-and-15 out route in the third quarter, Asante Samuel was clearly looking for a big play, just waiting to jump the route.

Garrard threw anyway, and the Eagles cornerback stepped in front to do what he does best: pick off the ball for his first interception of the season.

Ellis Hobbs, jokingly criticized by teammate Quintin Mikell last week for failing to show sufficient "swag" (swagger) when celebrating his own interception against the Lions, was so enthusiastic about Samuel's play that he got flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Vick threw for a score on the next play anyway.

What about Hobbs?

It's hard to know what to make of Hobbs so far.

The cornerback got beaten for a deep score during Week 1, then bounced back to help contain Calvin Johnson and intercept a pass against the Lions.

This week, he got beaten deep by Tiquan Underwood and was called for pass interference, giving up 38 yards to the otherwise impotent Jaguars.

Back outside

The Brandon Graham inside experiment seems to have been deemed a failure.

The rookie defensive end, after playing the majority of his downs at tackle in the first game, has played less and less inside. Through the first quarter Sunday, Graham played every defensive snap at end.

With Darryl Tapp activated and active, and with Trevor Laws stealing more of Mike Patterson's time at tackle, Graham was able to stay at his natural position: outside.

Run to pass

If your offensive line is having trouble against the pass rush, one of the best ways to supplement the protection is to establish the run. And the Eagles did that early on, going to running back LeSean McCoy and mixing in a little of backup Mike Bell for good measure.

Vick faced some pressure but nowhere near as bad as it was a week ago, and by the second quarter he had ample time in the pocket.

Getting the message

Eagles defensive coordinator Sean McDermott, in his own subtle way, called out Akeem Jordan last week when was he asked to assess the linebacker's play thus far. McDermott called it "adequate," and the message appeared to have gotten to Jordan.

He was the Eagles' best defensive player in the first half as he made run-stopping tackles and even defended a pass to Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew.

Local makes good

Here's a little shout-out to Jaguars defensive tackle and Temple product Terrance Knighton.

He owned the right guard combination of Nick Cole and Reggie Wells all day and harassed Vick.
