Eagles Notes: Eagles' Celek doesn't seem to be Kolb's favorite target

In Kevin Kolb's two starts under center last season, Eagles tight end Brent Celek caught 12 passes for 208 yards and a touchdown.

Because of Celek's production with Kolb, there was an assumption heading into this season that he would benefit most from the quarterback's promotion.

But it hasn't been that way through the first three preseason games. In the starters' six quarters of play, Celek has just four catches for 51 yards. Kolb has targeted him just eight times compared with 17 and 10 for wide receivers Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson, who each left a game early because of injuries.

"It's not like I'm in panic mode or anything," Celek said Monday. "Honestly, I really don't care about the catches as long as we're winning."

There should have been an additional reception, but Celek could not hold on to a would-be touchdown pass in the first preseason game against Jacksonville.

"We just haven't clicked as well as we'd like to," Kolb said.

Celek said he has dealt with assorted bumps and bruises and the occasional day when he did not have his legs during camp, but nothing that would warrant a day's rest.

"Personally, I'm not that type of person," said Celek, who led the team with 76 catches a year ago. "I can never take a day like that. I'm too superstitious."

In a case of "we'll take your sixth-round pick if you take ours," the Eagles traded running back Charles Scott to Arizona for cornerback Jorrick Calvin.

Calvin, a 5-foot-11, 184-pound rookie, was not expected to make the Cardinals' roster. But as Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said, "You're always looking for corners," and the team had a fairly high draft grade for the receiver out of Troy.

"It's a hard-to-find position," Roseman said.

Calvin also can return kicks.

Scott did not fit with the Eagles. The 5-11, 238-pound former LSU player had been moved to fullback, but he struggled with the position's blocking and pass-catching responsibilities.

With final roster cuts four days away, the Eagles are sure to make several moves after teams trim down to 53 players.

"This is the week that we're looking at everything, all possibilities, and evaluating all rosters and trying to figure out what's going to work and what's not," Roseman said.

Defensive end Trent Cole (ankle), linebacker Ernie Sims (forearm), guard Todd Herremans (ankle), cornerback Dimitri Patterson (groin), and defensive end Ricky Sapp (knee) did not practice but took part in conditioning drills outdoors. . . . Wide receiver DeSean Jackson (neck/back) also did not practice. He was home recovering after having his wisdom teeth pulled. . . . Sapp underwent an MRI exam. The Eagles said they were still evaluating his knee.
