The Inquirer's publication of The Deciders, the recent eight-part

series on how the Eagles' front office makes decisions,

drew plenty of comments from print and online readers.

Here is a sampling of what some had to say about the Birds.

On Part 1, Andy Reid

Andy could have been one of the most popular Eagles coaches ever. His W-L record is the best, and his players seem to like and respect him. But he has never understood the Eagle fan (and I'm not talking about the crazies). The Eagle fan wants to be treated with respect and acknowledged for knowing the game. When Andy turns arrogant and confrontational with the press, he's doing it to us.

- Jack Murphy, Plymouth Meeting

It is beyond my understanding how anybody could continue to work, especially in a high profile job, while his two sons are in jail. It is a further testament on how important [Reid] is to himself and his family that he always comes first.

- Rick LeFevre

You can be perfect parents, if there were such a thing, and still have your kids use drugs or go any number of negative routes. I wish Reid and his wife well as they continue to support their kids and direct them in the right direction.

- SemperAugust

On Part 2,

Howie Roseman

He can want [to be in] the NFL more than anyone else and want a Super Bowl more than anyone else, but if he were a running back I'd say he has average vision, not great vision.

- tacklinjoe

All his perseverance will pay dividends down the line as they mold this young team around [Kevin] Kolb. 2010 will be the ramp-up year; 2011 they make their move.

- M60tanker

What kinda kid dreams of being a general manager? lol.

- BooDuhBud

On Part 3, Jeffrey Lurie

The hurt of losing our dad at an early age will never completely leave us. But the older you get (I'm now 75), the fond memories of the time you and your dad spent together will come to the fore, and the sense of loss will lessen.

- Charlie Law, Malvern

He is the ultimate leader of the team, and he did not stand up when it was needed, like letting Dawk walk and signing/keeping Vick.

- Earl J

Signing Vick changed my opinion of Lurie. I now see him as a typical NFL owner who has no respect for the loyal fans who made him a wealthy man.

- ej610

On Part 4,

Christina Lurie

The Lurie group is concerned about cash flow first, image second, and then (and only then) about winning.

- rossinkrantz

I generally mistrust the elite, but the Luries are an exception to the rule. They have brought class and built this organization and are consistent winners on the field as well.

- TrueValues

Christina, Can you make Andy Reid run the football?

- Voytas

On Part 5, Joe Banner

Banner's been a success, but most fans can't get over how a guy who looks like them - short, glasses, not that athletic - can work in the NFL. Hence, the hate.

- tagryn

I love how much he hates losing. That has not always been the case in this team's front office.

- stopbooing

I do not agree with the "evilbanner" stuff or most of the overheated stuff on talk radio, but this is where the disconnect between Banner and the fans lies. The fans love the Eagles and winning. Joe loves winning.

- John Murray

On Part 6, Michael Vick

It really would be nice to see Michael Vick have this social impact that Lurie [laid] out and Vick himself said he was gonna be.

- Reality Speaks

I have absolutely no problem with having Vick on the team. I hated what he did to the dogs, but he went to jail and paid a steep price for his actions, and it's time to move on and judge him from this point on.

- clemenza

If the Eagles had another candidate to back up Kolb, would they find MV's decisions and actions to be in violation of their agreement?

- MG44

On Part 7, Turning away from fan favorites

I like the Eagles' philosophy to be competitive every year. It's been a great ride under Reid. When players are let go, they rarely perform as they did with the Eagles.

- Slovs

If Joe [Banner] says everything is based upon "giving us the best chance to win" then he should fire Andy and resign. In 11 years, they have not won the only thing that counts. The Lombardi trophy.

- nuggett

The Eagles are a well-run organization operating by a formula which will yield consistent winners and profits without championships. Oh well, I guess you can't have it all.

- barrywil

On Part 8,

Donovan McNabb

The management just decided to make the smart move, save cash, and get Kolb plenty of action before next [season], when the kids step up and start excelling.

- Evilvet

In a perfect world, the Eagles would go 14-2 and lose both games to the Redskins. I know myself as well as many of my friends will be rooting for Washington to go "all the way" this year.

- bball1

The decision to dump McNabb should have been made years ago. A wasted decade of Eagles football.
