Dallas succeeds in bottling up Eagles wideout DeSean Jackson

CLEARLY, THE Cowboys knew which Bird was most deadly.

DeSean Jackson disappeared beneath smothering preventive coverage in last night's 20-16 loss to Dallas. He caught two passes for 29 yards.

DeSean Jackson, who finished with two receptions for 29 yards, can't handle pass in fourth quarter.

He can be electric. He can be a game-changer.

"I'm not always going to be able to do that," Jackson said. "Teams are going to do a great job to take me out of the game."

There was no relief.

No one stepped up - not dangerous rookie Jeremy Maclin, not budding star tight end Brent Celek, not Brian Westbrook, who missed his second consecutive game with concussion repercussions.

There was no Jackson, so there was no offense.

And no win.

By design.

"We came out and played a lot of man," said Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins, who saw a lot of both Jackson and Maclin. "We pressed a lot. Being as those guys don't have much size, we tried to use that to our advantage."

The Eagles managed 297 yards, 208 in the air. Quarterback Donovan McNabb, without his lethal weapon, bumbled to a 61.4 passer rating, his lowest of the season, with two interceptions, twice as many as he entered with.

Hard to believe, then, that the Cowboys' pass defense was considered mediocre. That might change today.

"A lot of people doubted our secondary coming into this game. We didn't sweat it at all," Jenkins said. "As long as that keeps going on - people keep disrespecting us - it's going to turn out like this."

Jenkins made sure it turned out poorly for the Eagles. It was his prescience that led to Donovan McNabb's second interception, near the end of the third quarter, which, in turn, led to the Cowboys' tying field goal.

McNabb tried to find Maclin deep. Jenkins was not fooled.

Maclin seemed too painfully obvious in his preroute jog, Jenkins said.

"I knew something was fishy," Jenkins said. "He's kind of fast, so I took an angle and tried to stay on his top shoulder. I undercut the receiver and took it from him."

Maclin, in turn, expected the throw on his other shoulder.

It was that sort of night.

McNabb's first interception went off Maclin's face.

Jackson will learn and grow as he continues to see the changing schemes from each team trying to stop him. Eagles will find the right plays for Jacson against the right defense. Mclin's growth will help in the process; Mclin as a 21 year old Rookie needs his time to catch the balls in different pattern.

Looked like Macnab was trying to force the ball to D-Jack and Maclin all game.

"No one stepped up" -- including McNabb.

To say Celek didn't step up is not right. He caught everything that was catchable that was thrown to him. Is still don't understand why we run against bad pass defenses (Cowpies) and pass against bad run defense (Raiders)

61% QB rate! 1 comback victory in 66 games! He stinks! 24th in passing yards in the West Coast Offense while the kid(Kolb)who had the best QB start in Eagles History sits on the bench being wasted. All for the sake of political corectness. Even the Mcnabb apologists now realize its time for Mcflabb to head to the bench.

When does Curtis return? They could use a veteran on this squad right now.

Bye Bye McNabb..looks like the "other McNabb" mcchoked his way to a loss again. Legacy, he comes up small in big and stressful situations. Time and time and time again.

You have to give credit to Dallas' scheme. They did a good job of taking away the long passes. Still we had some success running the ball and the game was very winable. Too many mistakes, drops, bad throws, penalties, ints, poor execution and mental errors. We wasted a timeout not getting the play in on time (either get the play in or take the 5yrd penalty!) and the 1st challenge was a mistake which cost us another timeout. The defense played OK but the offense struggled and had no rhythm. You don't win many NFL games by scoring 16 points.

Anyone watch how a clutch QB in Philip Rivers marched down the field and with 20 seconds left passed for the winning TD against the Giants. I like Donavan, but he can't do that, and never will, unfortunately.

Yeah, I watched Rivers perform phenomenally but I think he had well over 1min plus a timeout left. Darren Sproles really made a great play on that drive. Hate to say it but the Eagles haven't a chance out west coast next week. I'm predicting 33-10, Chargers.

Bill1966....I seriously hope you're joking? You're taking the QB rating of ONE game when his was over 100 for the SEASON! And something like 15th all time? I swear Eagle fans get more ignorant by the day. And his rating would have been high if not for dropped passes. And Bob....clutch Rivers? He dreams of accomplishing what McNabb has.

brian2706...it is amazing that clutch Rivers team is 5-3 and without his miracle they would be 4-4 :-) In Bill1966's head Kolb is a great player although he can never won anything in college or pro against anyone, except Cheifs in a game where Cheifs did not get a chance to touch him (O-line was that good that day). Don't expect logic from there morons; you may have better luck of getting reasonable answers from girl friend or wife :-)

Reid and Marty M. don't know how to adjust. They get a pre-game plan and stick with it, even if it means a big fat "L". a smart coach would have adjusted at halftime. no matter how smart and successful the sports news media says the eagles coaching staff is, they have ZERO superbowl wins.

DeShaun Jackson is great. A superstar, its a shame his talents are being wasted by Mcnabb. It will be exciting to see him play the next 10 years with Kolb as his QB. Do we bench Mcnabb like we did last season or do we give him another game. I say , lets not waste the season and get Kolb in there now. The kid threw for record setting numbers and we get to watch the fat barf king choke again. Mcnabb is the worst clutch player the NFL has ever seen...
