Eagles Notes

Eagles coach Andy Reid said that Brian Westbrook would play tomorrow against the Cowboys even though the running back was held out of most of practice yesterday and was listed as questionable on the team's injury report.

"He has had two hard days of work," Reid said. "And really [LeSean McCoy] hasn't gotten a ton of reps. So like I've done on other Fridays, I kept Brian out and limited."

Reid said that Westbrook, who missed the Giants game on Sunday after he suffered a concussion the previous week, took almost every repetition during practice on Wednesday and Thursday. Reid still plans on using a rotation, which would explain why he wanted to get McCoy more snaps.

Still, Westbrook was listed as questionable on Oct. 30 and did not play two days later. He woke up last Saturday with a headache, so the team decided to rest the 30-year-old. Reid said yesterday that Westbrook didn't have a recurrence of the headache and that he looked sharp in practice this week.

"I think he can contribute a bunch here," Reid said. "We've been rotating him, so that's what we'll continue to do."

Gocong doubtful

Linebacker Chris Gocong didn't practice yesterday and was listed as doubtful for the Dallas game.

Gocong, who injured the quadriceps and hamstring in his right leg against the Giants, was held out of practice all week. Rookie Moise Fokou took his place and will start on the strong side if Gocong doesn't dress.

"The closer you get to the game, the more you tell yourself that this is going to happen," Fokou said. "It's kind of hitting home right now. But at the same time, you got to take it seriously. I want to be out there and be the best I can be and not have the defense miss the presence of Chris."

Gocong, playing one of the more unheralded positions of defense, is fifth on the team with 31 tackles. He also has a sack and a forced fumble. Fokou has mostly played on special teams this season but saw about 12 plays of action when Gocong left the New York game.

"He's all right. He'll be ready," Reid said. "He's been working hard at that. Even when Chris was healthy, he would go in and take reps during practice so he stayed on top of things."

Reid is handling the RB transition very well. Westbrook will continue to contribute through end of next year while 21 year old McCoy start to hold on to the ball and pick up yards. Westbrook is still the major RB threat; but he needs the FB (Weaver) support like McCoy got during Giants game. It should be a shared responsibility, but if the team takes good lead it would be better if McCoy gets lot of touch with the first O-line in place to protect him.

Completely agree, Seed. But, I still want to see Weaver regularly. He has proven he can be a weapon in this offense.

While Westbrook will continue to produce I don't like this from the concussion standpoint. I don't trust the NFL or the athletes themselves to objectively gauge the extent of the brain injury. The hitting leagues (NFL, NHL) don't have the best track records when dealing with concussions.

Here's hoping that BWest HAS overcome that nasty concussion. And if Andy see's ANYTHING that might look like a recurrence he should remove him at once for an exam. And for the first time in a long time, we actually have some depth at his position. Besides Shady, that Eldra Bunkley seems to be a for-real RB. And we have an ACTUAL, real-live, honest-to-hades FULLBACK to lead the way to the line! Oh, and THAT guy can run with the ball once in a while too!
