Rush Limbaugh's bid to buy the St. Louis Rams has run into opposition within the NFL. Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay vowed yesterday to vote against him, and commissioner Roger Goodell said the conservative commentator's "divisive" comments would not be tolerated by any NFL insider.

The Rams have not confirmed that they are for sale.

Rex a wreck. Rex Ryan arrived at the New York Jets' facility early yesterday morning and never went home. The Jets' coach was too angry about how his defense - his pride and joy - allowed the Miami Dolphins to pull one out Monday night.

"It absolutely was a humbling experience," Ryan said of the 31-27 loss at Miami.

New York's defense had given up three touchdowns in the first four games but allowed three in the fourth quarter against Miami and blew three leads in the second half.

"I mean, that's our time to go for the jugular, and we just never responded," Ryan said. "On defense, it's like I'm mad, still. That's unacceptable."

The Jets (3-2) will be at home against Buffalo (1-4) on Sunday.

Dolphins. NFL owners meeting in Boston approved Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie as a part owner of the Miami Dolphins. Team owner Stephen Ross already has forged celebrity partnerships with singer Jimmy Buffett, musicians Gloria and Emilio Estefan and Marc Anthony, and tennis stars Serena and Venus Williams.

Patriots. Junior Seau is back with New England, coming out of retirement for a third time to sign a contract for a 20th season.

The 12-time Pro Bowl linebacker played the final four games with the Patriots last season after playing 27 games with them in 2006 and 2007.

Noteworthy. Defensive end Aaron Smith suffered a right shoulder injury Sunday that Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said "potentially could be significant." . . . The Baltimore Ravens signed receiver David Tyree, who was cut last month by the New York Giants. . . . Seattle placed left tackle Brandon Frye was placed on injured reserve with a neck injury suffered Sunday. . . . Cincinnati cut long-snapper Brad St. Louis and signed Clark Harris. . . . Tampa Bay signed receiver Yamon Figurs and released former Eagles linebacker Matt McCoy. . . . The Buffalo Bills signed linebacker Chris Draft and safety Todd Johnson, both former Rams.
