You Talkin' to Me? For Reid, lots of wins but still no ring

Re: Big Red machine

Andy Reid is going for win No. 100 on Sunday against Tampa Bay. Say what you will about the guy - and plenty has been said - Reid has put up some impressive numbers. With a win, he will become the only Eagles coach in 76 years with 100 wins and will join Bill Belichick, Tom Coughlin and Jeff Fisher as the only active coaches with triple-digit wins.

So gentlemen, what say you about Big Red?

Re: Big Red machine

I just cleared my throat. OK, injuries: The NFC championship loss to Tampa Bay to close the Vet. The NFC championship loss to Carolina in the first year at the Linc. The onside kick after the last TD in the Super Bowl against New England. The fourth-down punt against New Orleans in the playoff loss at the Superdome. Other than that, Andy has done a real nice job with this team. In fact, the things he has done a real nice job with far outweigh the other side of the ledger.

Re: Big Red machine

Right now he's in the same category as Fisher - one Super Bowl appearance and no cigar.

He is hailed for running the best camps and practices in the NFL; he prepares well, builds and rebuilds fairly well, has drafted better than he's given credit for and used free agency well on many occasions (Jon Runyan, Carlos Emmons, Jeff Garcia) and has had a decade that includes only one losing season. If he could coach a lick on game day he'd be immortal.

Re: Big Red machine

I like it, Brookie. But seriously, don't you think non-Eagles fans view Reid more positively than Eagles fans do? The locals only see what's not on the resume instead of what is. Is that just the nature of the beast?

Re: Big Red machine

The Beast in Philadelphia demands a championship for a coach to be considered a success. The long droughts between celebrations - the Eagles haven't won the last game since 1960 - have given the fans a very hardheaded standard of judgment. Win a title, and you're a winner. Don't, and you're dog dirt.

Re: Big Red machine

I'm not going to get into all that. I think the Eagles' fans are the best fans in the world and I'm sure the coach appreciates when they're out there screaming their heads off. What's missing from the resume? Ashley, Don, time's yours.

Re: Big Red machine

You've covered the man for what, six years now? You really are starting to sound like him. It's scary.

Re: Big Red machine

Seven years of Andy and they're like dog years (no Michael Vick joke intended), so I've been at this for 49 years and I'm only 46 years old.
