Nike says it doesn't have 'contractual relationship' with Vick

Nike said yesterday it does not have a "contractual relationship" with Michael Vick, a day after the quarterback's agent announced a deal with the manufacturer.

In a statement, Nike said it has "agreed to supply product to Michael Vick as we do a number of athletes who are not under contract with Nike."

Vick's agent Joel Segal told Sports Business Journal for a story published yesterday that Vick looked forward to continuing his relationship with Nike, adding that the player and company had agreed not to release terms of the deal. Segal did not return a call from the Daily News yesterday.

A Nike spokesman did not return a call from the Daily News on Wednesday night.

Nike, which signed Vick as a rookie in 2001, terminated his contract in August 2007 after he filed a plea agreement admitting his involvement in a dogfighting ring.

DeSean honored

Jackson leads the NFL with a 22.2-yard punt-return average and had an 85-yard punt-return touchdown. The TD in Week 1 was the second-longest punt-return TD in team history. He is the first return specialist in team history to be named NFC Special Teams Player of the Month.

As expected, the Eagles' DeSean Jackson was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September.
