Can't tell the Birds without a scorecard

Wow, does your head hurt? After trying to keep up with the news out of the NovaCare Complex the last few days, mine does. Jeff Garcia signed. Shawn Andrews went on injured reserve. Hank Baskett got released. Michael Vick came off the exempt list.

Poor Rodney Carney. Nobody cared that he rejoined the 76ers yesterday. (And yes, he really did.)

During an hourlong online chat yesterday, readers bombarded me with questions about Donovan McNabb's ribs, Kevin Kolb's ability, and Sean McDermott's defense, among other things. I didn't have time to answer all, or even half, of the questions, so here are a few more.

Hey Ashley, I actually think there's very little pressure on Kevin Kolb this Sunday if he plays. The expectations for him are so low at this point that he'd literally have to shoot somebody on the field to make anyone angrier. All he has to do is even have a mediocre game and public opinion can start to turn. Plus, most Eagles fans know they just can't start Garcia this week. Your thoughts?

- Matt

Dr. Phil's in town. Maybe he should do a show on this town's relationships with its quarterbacks.

To review: People hate Donovan because, although he's led the Eagles to five NFC championship games, he didn't win the Super Bowl. People hate Kolb because in a couple of quarters he's shown he's not Tom Brady. Garcia is great, even though he couldn't beat the Saints in the playoffs. And A.J. Feeley is awesome, even though he threw eight interceptions in three starts in 2007, the last time he got on the field.

All Kolb has to do to turn public opinion is contribute to a winning effort on Sunday. That would be a nice start.

Has anyone considered that perhaps the QB they are worried about is not Kolb but Vick? Even in his so-called prime, he struggled as a passing quarterback. Do you think that maybe they know that he cannot contribute this year and that is why they signed Garcia?

- Bubby

Bubby, Bubby, Bubby. Silly Bubby. The Eagles know Vick won't be able to contribute much from the quarterback position. That's not why they signed him. When they say that they view him as a quarterback, they're lying.

Vick is the Wildcat. He might even be more as the season progresses, but a viable option at quarterback? Nope. Not here.

The Garcia signing is more of an indication how the Eagles feel about Kolb than how the feel about Vick.

What did you think of Tom Brady trying to blow off Suzy Kolber?

- Doobs

Joe Namath could not have liked that. Mr. Bundchen comes back after a year hiatus and leads New England to a come-from-the-dead win over the Fighting T.O.'s and then makes cute Suzy run after him for one lousy sound bite? I know Brady is paid to evade pursuers, but come on.

He acted like a jerk. Yes, the media can be a colossal pain in the neck, and yes, I'm sure Brady did just want to go into the locker room for a soak, but it's part of his responsibility as the face of the Patriots' franchise to stand for 30 seconds and answer a couple of innocuous questions.

Kolber: How'd it feel to be back?

Brady: It was awesome. My knee's great. I showed I'm still a stud.

Kolber: Talk about overcoming an 11-point deficit with 5 1/2 minutes to play.

Brady: There was never a doubt in my mind we could do it. That's what we do.

Kolber: OK, thanks, Tom.

Brady: No problem.

Would that have been so hard?

Do you think Donovan should ask McDonald's to bring back the McRib? Combine that with the Subway stuff and he could pick up lunch all year.

- Tim

There's a bad joke waiting to be made, but it's not going to happen. Maybe next door at Gonzo's, but not in my house. No, sir.
