Letters: Vick signing: Hot under the (dog) collar

RE THE FRONT-PAGE Michael Vick headline "Hide Your Dogs": Shame on you. I can't believe Daily News editors would actually print a cover with no regard for the letter of the law. In the so-called City of Brotherly Love and the United States of America, in case you forgot, once an inmate serves his time under the code of law, his debt to society has been paid.

Daily News, you are just as guilty of inhumane treatment as Vick was. "Hide Your Dogs" tells me where the dogs truly are.

Vick was wrong. Get over it. Had you or I had an indiscretion in our 20s, we would be able to work and not be under this scrutiny.

Please give front-page coverage to real news, like the economy, health care and the like.

Wow.

Ex-con Michael Vick is coming to the Eagles. Could the real reason they are hiring him be to take advantage of Mayor Nutter's tax credit for ex-cons?

Mayer Krain, Philadelphia

I won't watch or have anything to do with the Eagles as long as Vick is a member of the team. I don't want to hear about second chances. He is scum!

Robert Patrick McNulty, Philadelphia

Disgraceful.

That's how to describe the Eagles recent signing.

How could someone with such strong morals and solid family values . . . oh, wait, that's right, Andy Reid threw those out the window a few years ago. So this is what the "Gold Standard" is, giving the middle finger to your loyal fans.

Well, as this is being written, I'm proud to say my dog has torn his way through my season ticket package.

Sure, I'm in favor of second chances. But not to a man - and I use that term loosely - who showed no remorse when accused of these charges and hasn't displayed a whole lot more since his release from prison.

I don't know how your coach talked you into this one, Mr. Lurie, but this will have a huge impact on your bottom line, and we all know that is more important to you than the fan base.

Jason Henry, Philadelphia

To sign a sadistic animal-abuser is beyond the pale. If this is what the Eagles think they need to do to win, then winning is no longer important. I won't watch any Eagles games as long as Vick remains on the roster - from now on, I'm a Steelers fan.

John Nernoff, Philadelphia

So Andy Reid thinks criminal Michael Vick deserves a second chance. We see how well second chances have worked with Reid's two loser sons.
