McNabb vs. Cutler

The talking heads of the Philadelphia sports world have been tossing around the idea of the Eagles pursuing disgruntled Broncos QB Jay Cutler. As a result, there have been more than a few Eagles fans that have followed with that line of thinking. I have one word for you. STOP.

Jay Cutler has not proved anything in the NFL yet. Sure, he is a talented 26-year old quarterback who has been to the Pro Bowl. And yes, he threw for an otherworldly 4,526 passing yards this past season. But he is also a quarterback who threw 18 interceptions last season and has never won a playoff contest. The only thing that Cutler has over McNabb is the fact that he is six years younger than him. So for all of the fans calling for a trade I ask: Do you really want to pay the steep price it would cost to get a QB who will not improve this team? Didn't think so.

Every time there appears to be an opening to run McNabb out of town too many Eagles fans jump on the bandwagon. Oh how soon they forget 3-13.

Hey, your thoughts on Cutler are idiotic. A person who looks at a QB's interceptions as a way to base one's performance is asinine. I guess in your opinion McNabb and Neil O'Donnell are the best QBs of all time. Let me remind you that in order to win, you must make throws in tight spots to win big games. Let me also remind you that Cutler threw the ball more than McNabb, was in more HIGH-scoring games, and most of Cutlers picks were not in critical situations. Unlike someone we all know who wears green.

Bye, bye, L.J.

L.J. Smith has signed a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens for $1.5 million. (Editor's note: This is unconfirmed.) The classic injury-prone, underachieving tight end never lived up to the billing coming out of Rutgers University. Yes, there were flashes of greatness that we saw during the course of Smith's tenure with the Eagles. But there were also plenty of dropped passes, missed blocks, and recurring ailments that derailed his opportunity to be an elite tight end out of a draft that also produced Jason Witten and Dallas Clark.

When you depart and there is no backlash in your wake that you'll be missed, people may classify the L.J. experience as a bust.

We wish you well L.J., but you did not leave enough of an impression to be missed. Unfortunately, you're an afterthought in a long list of past Eagle disappointments.

The only part of L.J. leaving that is likely to upset Eagles fans is that it didn't happen last year. Falcon fans were rejoicing when it was reported L.J. would not be signing there.

Surprising how far L.J.'s stock has fallen.

So, what now at TE? He's officially gone. Is Celek ready to start? I don't see a TE in the first round of the draft. So what are we gonna do?
