Eagles Notes

Westbrook takes a few more steps

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook participated in practice at the NovaCare Complex for about an hour yesterday before leaving the field. Will Westbrook play Sunday against the Washington Redskins? "We'll see," coach Andy Reid said.

Reid said the plan was for Westbrook to leave practice about an hour before it ended.

"We're throwing him in there a little bit more each day," he said. "He did a little more today than [Wednesday], and we'll give him a little more tomorrow. We're just being smart with it and adding something every day.

"He's moving around out there, and it's been real positive. He looked real good out there today."

Westbrook suffered a sprained right ankle Sept. 21 against Pittsburgh and sat out last week's game at Chicago. His brother, Byron, a cornerback for the Redskins, has said he would be surprised if Westbrook played.

As for whether he will, Reid said: "He's making progress, and we'll see how he does here the rest of the week. Every day has been a good step forward."

The walking wounded

Along with Westbrook, wide receiver Kevin Curtis (sports hernia surgery), defensive end Victor Abiamiri (wrist), and defensive tackle Dan Klecko (hand) participated in practice on a limited basis.

Curtis, the Eagles' leading receiver last season with 77 catches for 1,110 yards, is putting more and more time in with the scout team at practice. There was no word as to when he might return to action, but it might be against Atlanta on Oct. 26 after the bye week.

"I've been progressing, but I haven't gone 100 percent or run full speed or cut on it because I didn't feel it was ready," Curtis said. "It doesn't feel 100 percent perfect. I've got some work to do to get back to where I've been."

Guard Shawn Andrews continued to sit out with a sore back.

The September man

Punter Sav Rocca, named NFL special-teams player of the month, is not letting the honor go to his head.

"It's something I'll look back on after I finish playing," he said. "But at the moment, it's just one week at a time. We've got one more game coming up in the next couple of days, and that's all I'm worried about now."

Rocca, in his second season with the Eagles after starring in the Australian Football League, ranks first in the NFL in net punting with a 44.1-yard average and has downed seven punts inside the 20.
