Quintin Mikell is a six-year veteran.
Quintin Demps, picked in the fourth round with the 117th choice, continues to impress coach Andy Reid with his speed, athleticism and toughness. Demps played at Texas-El Paso, where he picked off 17 passes, second most in Conference USA history, and returned two interceptions for 100 yards in the same season.
"You can see that he had a lot of interceptions in college, and you always want to see if that carries over to the pro game," Reid said yesterday. "In these practices, you see him getting his hands on the ball and making catches."
The Eagles have Demps playing safety and cornerback.
"That makes him a valuable guy if he can continue to improve in those areas," Reid said.
Demps intercepted an A.J. Feeley pass in the morning practice.
Smith returned from a pulled hamstring to take part in the afternoon 10/10/10 drills, in which the offense, defense and special teams take turns running 10 plays. The 6-foot-2, 245-pound Smith will get his first chance at contact today.
Also, defensive end Chris Clemons practiced two days after he was taken to a hospital to be treated for dehydration and heat-related illness. Clemons signed a five-year deal in March and is expected to strengthen the pass rush.
Defensive end Victor Abiamiri, who had surgery Tuesday to repair a dislocated right wrist, returned to camp and will do workouts while he heals. Abiamiri is expected to miss all of training camp and perhaps longer. Reid said no timetable would be determined until the team saw how Abiamiri progressed.
Others among the injured: running back Ryan Moats (inflamed ankle), cornerback Asante Samuel (hamstring), tight end L.J. Smith (strained calf), defensive tackle Kimo von Oelhoffen (knee), and offensive tackle Franklin Dunbar (lower-back spasms).
Samuel, the Eagles' expensive off-season signing, may miss a couple of more days.
"Asante is a little bit away, but he's getting closer," Reid said.
Players 30 and older, such as Dawkins, Donovan McNabb, Jon Runyan and Tra Thomas, get the morning practice off every third day.
The luckiest among the elder statesmen is defensive end Juqua Parker, who turned 30 on May 15. Parker was Juqua Thomas before he legally changed his name during the off-season - a request of his father, Willie Parker, before he died.
The most unlucky in the 30-plus club is quarterback Feeley. He is 31 but must practice to give the team two quarterbacks.
"They get in and normally work out a little bit, hit the tubs, get a little extra sleep," Reid said of the 30-plus players. "They're not just lying around. These guys are a little older now, and this is helping them, and I'll keep it going."
Asked how much of a distraction to the Packers it would be if Brett Favre reported to their camp, Reid said: "I think when you're in the dryer, kind of going around and around, you don't worry about all that stuff. That's not what we worry about here, and I know there are issues. I'm sure they're saying if Brett shows up, Brett shows up. I think Mike" - Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy - "and the football team really don't care. They're doing their thing. You're concentrating on the guys who are here, and you've got so many different things to get prepared for, there's no time to worry about the other things."
