He was released last night. Rick Burkholder, the Eagles' head trainer, said that Clemons was never unconscious and never in serious danger but that he was sent to the hospital because it was not clear if he had suffered a head injury.
"We took him inside and got his body temperature cooled down with a cooling vest and hats and stuff that we do with all our players who overheat," Burkholder said.
"We got an IV started on him," the trainer said. "He wasn't as responsive as we liked. He wasn't unconscious. He just wasn't responding to our questioning the way we liked, and in those situations, we err on the side of caution.
"Not at any time did we feel his life was in danger. He was very stable when we were putting him in the ambulance. He was coming around.
"What we weren't sure about was: Did he get hit in the head at some point during the practice? But that's all been cleared. It was a normal dehydration event that just didn't go quite the way we wanted, and I'm always going to err on the side of caution with those."
Burkholder said Clemons, 26, would be carefully monitored before he returned to practice.
Experiencing his first training camp under Reid after two seasons with Washington and one with Oakland, Clemons was taken off the field on a cart about midway through the morning practice and needed assistance to walk into the locker room.
An emergency medical service van arrived at 11:15.
The Eagles signed Clemons, who had eight sacks with the Raiders last season, as a free agent in the off-season.
There has been added caution against dehydration at NFL training camps since the death of Minnesota Vikings tackle Korey Stringer from heatstroke in 2001.
The Eagles have said that Andrews is absent for personal reasons and that he has not been excused. The team will not confirm or deny that Andrews is being fined.
Andrews' agent, Rich Moran, could not be reached and had changed his phone number.
Stacy Andrews, an offensive tackle with the Cincinnati Bengals, was asked yesterday about his brother's absence .
"He has a few personal things he has to deal with and he's going to get them taken care of," Stacy said. "I really can't elaborate."
Safety Brian Dawkins suffered a slight hyperextension of his knee but returned to practice.
