The NFL Network reported that the Packers had contacted an unspecified number of AFC teams about a possible trade.
The report said one league executive speculated that the Packers were simply trying to see if there were a market for Favre.
Favre retired in early March, but changed his mind and asked to return to the Packers. Green Bay said he could return but not as the starting quarterback, a slot they have reserved for Aaron Rodgers, Favre's former backup.
Favre then asked for his release, but the Packers have refused to grant that request. Green Bay owns Favre's contractual rights until after the 2010 season.
There was speculation that Favre would petition NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for reinstatement, a move that would force the Packers to release him or place him on their active roster. But last week, Favre's agent, James Cook, said Favre has no plans to ask for reinstatement.
* Receiver Plaxico Burress said he is still miffed that the Giants haven't renegotiated his contract, but that won't stop him from reporting to training camp tomorrow.
"I'm going to be at camp. I'm going to get out and practice," Burress told the Newark Star-Ledger.
Burress has 3 years remaining on his 6-year, $25 million deal.
* Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis said he's "not interested" in having receiver Chris Henry rejoin the team.
The Bengals released Henry in April after he was arrested for the fifth time, and the NFL suspended him indefinitely. His court case ended in a mistrial and prosecutors dropped the charges, prompting Henry to seek reinstatement and a chance to play in the NFL again.
* San Diego defensive end Luis Castillo agreed to a 5-year contract extension through 2014 valued at about $43 million. The deal will pay Castillo a guaranteed $17.5 million in signing and roster bonuses.
Castillo's contract, signed as a rookie in 2005, had been due to expire after the 2009 season.
* Indianapolis coach Tony Dungy said he is certain quarterback Peyton Manning's left knee will be ready for the season opener. In fact, said Dungy, he might even play during the preseason.
Manning had surgery last week to remove an infected bursa sac, a procedure doctors said would require 4 to 6 weeks to heal.
* St. Louis offensive tackle Orlando Pace is close to returning from a shoulder injury, but will begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list.
Pace tore the labrum and rotator cuff in his right shoulder in the 2007 season opener against Carolina.
* New England offensive lineman Nick Kaczur pleaded guilty to speeding in a deal with prosecutors that will put a misdemeanor drug-possession charge on hold.
The 28-year-old Kaczur was ordered to pay $355 in fines and fees by Whitestown (N.Y.) Justice Stanley Wolanin, who said the drug-possession charge will be dismissed if he stays out of trouble for the next 6 months.
According to police reports, Kaczur had 202 OxyContin pills labeled as made in Canada when he was pulled over April 27 by state troopers near Utica, N.Y.
* The New York Jets signed free-agent defensive back Ahmad Carroll, a former first-round pick of Green Bay who was out of the NFL last season.
Carroll played this year in the Arena Football League with the Orlando Predators after being waived by Jacksonville in May 2007, 2 days after he was arrested on weapon and drug charges in an incident involving a disturbance in an Atlanta restaurant.
* On the first day of training camp, quarterbacks Kyle Boller, Troy Smith and Joe Flacco spoke about working together to make Baltimore a better team.
Flacco, the Ravens' top draft pick in 2008 out of Audubon (N.J.) High and the University of Delaware, said: "It's not anything really against the other guy. We're able to come out here and practice and get along and talk to each other about what went on during the plays. So, I think it's a pretty good relationship."
* Oakland signed former Kansas City safety Greg Wesley to a 1-year contract. *
