Eagles - Cardinal O'Hara star Jones schedules workout to try to land NFL job

Kevin Jones will hold a personal workout for a number of NFL teams tomorrow, but the Eagles won't be among them. That doesn't mean, however, the former Cardinal O'Hara High star isn't still interested in coming home.

"I'm still interested in the Eagles, but the situation has to be right," said Jones, who is recovering from a torn ACL in his right knee that he suffered against Kansas City on Dec. 23. "I'm not ruling out any team. I feel really good. I'm not in any pain, there's no discomfort, and I'm able to make my cuts. I feel great. I can't wait to work out for these teams. I know I can still play in the NFL."

Jones was released March 13 by the Detroit Lions, who drafted him 30th overall in the first round out of Virginia Tech in 2004. Jones will do a series of running drills for a group of NFL teams at 2 p.m. tomorrow, in Saline, Mich., about 40 miles west of Detroit, and it marks a pretty amazing recovery since Dr. James Andrews reconstructed his patella tendon and ligaments in his right knee in January.

Jones would not say which teams are interested in him, but published reports indicated the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots are among them.

On June 20, Jones did a routine, running up hills, darting and changing direction, cutting left, right, moving backward. His workout is even posted on YouTube.

"I think I proved I'm capable of doing everything I was able to do before [the injury]," said Jones, who last season came back from a Lisfranc injury in his left foot to play 13 games for the Lions. His first game back was against the Eagles on Sept. 23, scoring a touchdown in the Eagles' 56-21 blowout victory.

"The only question I think anyone would have about me is contact," Jones said. "But I've played football my whole life. Contact doesn't bother me. The biggest thing I had to get over, I think, was if my knee would hold up. It has. I feel great. Right now, I'm going about 225 [pounds], but I'd like to get down to around 220, 218."

Jones' best season came in his rookie year, when he rushed for 1,133 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 75.5 yards per game in 15 games. In 4 years in the NFL, Jones has rushed for 3,067 yards on 761 carries and 24 touchdowns.

In 2007, Jones rushed for 581 yards and a career-best eight touchdowns. That season also featured a number of outstanding games, one coming on Dec. 9, in a 28-27 loss to Dallas, when he rushed for 92 yards on 23 carries, and scored two touchdowns. *
