Meet the Eagles' draft picks

Here is a thumbnail look at the 10 players that the Eagles drafted over the weekend:

TREVOR LAWS

Round 2, No. 47 overall

Defensive tackle, 6-1, 304, Notre Dame

Played defensive tackle in the Irish's 4-3 alignment and then switched to end when that unit changed to a 3-4 ... Was the only down lineman in the country with more than 100 tackles (had 112, eight for losses) in addition to four sacks, five pass breakups and three blocked kicks ... Started 25 games and played in 37 from 2004-06 ... Overlooked by some because of his height, but graded high in motor, power, technique and quickness ... Finished career with 224 tackles, the most by an Irish player since Chris Zorich had 219 (1988-90) ... Irish fans compare Laws to Zorich .. Recognized for academics throughout his career ... Compiled a 142-5 record as a Minnesota high school wrestler, including a 49-0 season and a state title as a super-heavy- weight as a junior ... Threw the shot put 58 feet ... Web site is trevor-laws.com.

DeSEAN JACKSON

Round 2, No. 49

Wide receiver, 5-11, 178, Cal

You wanted a returner ... and the Eagles took one who figured to go somewhere in the late first or early second round ... DJ's numbers are eye-opening: owner of the Pac-10 records for punts returned for a touchdown in a season (four) and career (six) who ranks third all-time at Cal for receiving yards with 2,423 and receiving TDs with 22 ... Finished with 52 career plays of 20 yards or more ... Caught 60 passes and had 15 TDs as a high school senior, and named the 2004 Glenn Davis Award winner by the Los Angeles Times as Southern California's player of the year ... Compared (and wouldn't this be nice?) to Carolina's Steve Smith ... Left college after his junior year.

BRYAN SMITH

Round 3, No. 80 overall

Defensive end, 6-2, 231, McNeese State

Is speed enough? We'll find out with Smith, who won't knock over anyone with his size ... Smith last season had 60 tackles (22 1/2 for losses), 10 1/2 sacks, four forced fumbles and a 6-yard fumble return for a touchdown in 12 games ... Totaled 127 tackles (34 for losses) and 20 1/2 sacks as a sophomore and junior after sitting out his freshman year ... Said McNeese coach Jack Morrison: "He works so hard, practices so hard. He practices at a different level from everybody else. I think that goes back to his upbringing and that small-town upbringing [Newton, Texas] he has."

MIKE McGLYNN

Round 4, No. 109 overall

Guard, 6-4, 311, Pitt

His durability and technical skills have drawn plenty of praise, as has his scrappy demeanor ... Played his entire college career at right tackle, including 31 straight starts from his freshman into his junior year ... Because he's not an overpowering physical specimen, the feeling is that his path to the NFL makes more sense at guard ... One of three Eagles picks (Laws and Jackson being the others) on the top 100 prospects list of NFL.com's Gil Brandt ... Also figures to compete as a long-snapper ... Told an interviewer last fall: "I am a good leader with good character. There is not a lot of trouble with me. I'm a family man who is getting married here soon."

QUINTIN DEMPS

Round 4, No. 117 overall

Safety, 5-11, 206, Texas-El Paso

First time they've taken a Miner since Trey Darilek in 2004 ... Had 17 interceptions in college ... Pretty nice senior year, which included 72 tackles (4 1/2 for losses), two fumble recoveries, a blocked kick, nine pass breakups and five interceptions (including two 100-yard returns for scores) ... Said this ESPN.com predraft bio: " ... has a nose for the ball, displaying the ability to make momentum-shifting plays in coverage and on special teams."

JACK IKEGWUONU

Round 4, No. 131 overall

Cornerback, 5-11, 194, Wisconsin

Well, had he not blown out his right ACL preparing for the combine ... Originally projected as perhaps a second-rounder because of his size, cover ability and 4.4 speed; the injury simply means Ikegwuono is a reach pick who will use 2008 to rehab ... Pronounced eye-key-GWON-new ... Will likely move to safety once he does heal, some say ... Perhaps by then he'll have resolution on charges of residential burglary and criminal trespass from an arrest last November.

MIKE GIBSON

Round 6, No. 184 overall

Offensive tackle, 6-3, 305, Cal

Hmm, maybe better to pop the cork on this Napa, Calif., native in 2009 or '10 after a couple years of practice-squad aging ... Played juco ball before transferring to Cal, where he was stationed at left tackle (and made 21 starts) over two seasons ... Part of line that allowed just 11 sacks last season ... Critics like his size and speed inside but pan his lower-body push.

JOE MAYS

Round 6, No. 200 overall

Inside linebacker, 5-11, 245, North Dakota St.

Chicago native who finished as program's all-time leader in solo tackles, with 159 ... Named the 2007 Great West Defensive Player of the Year ... Three-year stats: 240 tackles, 9 1/2 sacks, 25 1/2 tackles for loss, 11 quarterback hurries, three INTs, four forced fumbles ... Coverage said to be weakness.

ANDY STUDEBAKER

Round 6, No. 203 overall

Defensive end, 6-3, 251, Wheaton

Studebaker? You'd like to say he has a high motor ... Division III Wheaton finished 8-2 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) ... Had 17 1/2 sacks as a junior and five in five games last season before being sidelined by a torn Lisfranc ligament.

KING DUNLAP

Round 7, No. 230 overall

Offensive tackle, 6-9, 310, Auburn

The King's reign soured in 2007, with injuries and performance issue reducing him to six starts after starting 13 games as a junior in '06 ... If he can impove his footwork, his best chances to stick are on the right side of the line.
