Each day, staff writer Bob Brookover takes a look at the Eagles' draft classes during the Tom Heckert-Andy Reid era.
Today, the Class of 2006.
| Pos. Player | Rnd | Pk | Pts | Comment |
| DT Brodrick Bunkley | 1 | 14 | 3 | 15 starts in 2007 |
| OT Winston Justice | 2 | 39 | 0 | 7 games, 2 starts in 2007 |
| DE Chris Gocong | 3 | 71 | 2 | 12 starts in 2007 |
| G Max Jean-Gilles | 4 | 99 | 0 | Played 4 games 2007 |
| WR Jason Avant | 5 | 109 | 2 | 23 games, 3 TDs, 2 years |
| WR Jeremy Bloom | 5 | 147 | 0 | Released in 2007 |
| LB Omar Gaither | 5 | 168 | 4 | Leading tackler in 2007 |
| DT LaJuan Ramsey | 6 | 204 | 1 | Played 9 games in 2007 |
Totals: 8 picks, 7 remain, 12 points.
Comment: The emergence of Bunkley and Gaither has already made this a solid draft class. It could get better if Gocong and/or Justice and Jean-Gilles become starters.
Each player in the 2006 NFL draft was given a point total for his production with the team that selected him. The player was not given points for what he did with other teams. He received four points for making the Pro Bowl, three points for each season he started all 16 games, two points for each season he started at least half his team’s games, and one point for playing in at least half his team’s games.

Comment: The two second-round picks are the only two players from their class to make consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl.
Best Eagles pick: Omar Gaither, LB, fifth round
Comment: A two-year starter, he led the team in tackles last season.
Worst overall pick: Bobby Carpenter, LB, Dallas Cowboys
Comment: A first-round pick, he has madejust one start in two seasons.
Worst Eagles pick: Winston Justice, OT, second round
Comment: Can he ever make people forget that dreadful night at Giants Stadium?
This year's NFL draft seems to be quite comparable to the 2006 draft when talking about the wide receiver position. In the 2006 draft, Ohio State's Santonio Holmes was the only wide receiver taken in the first round. He went to the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 25th overall pick.
Holmes' selection has proved to be a good one for the Steelers. He has 101 catches for 1,766 yards and 10 touchdowns in two seasons. The consensus that no other wide receiver was worth a first-round pick also appears solid.
The next two receivers taken were Florida's Chad Jackson, who went 36th overall to New England, and Miami's Sinorice Moss, taken 44th by the New York Giants. Neither has done much in his first two seasons.
Western Michigan's Greg Jennings, who went 52d overall to Green Bay, and Miami's Devin Hester, who went five picks later to Chicago, have both been success stories. Jennings had 12 touchdown receptions last season, and Hester has rewritten the record books and opposing game plans with his incredible ability to return kicks and punts.
"This year's is a good class of receivers, but not a great one at the top," Eagles general manager Tom Heckert said. "I think you're going to see a bunch of them taken in the second and third rounds."
The second day of the draft will forever change this year because the NFL has decided to shorten Saturday’s selections to two rounds, with rounds three through seven taking place on Sunday. Here is a look at how each NFL team has done on the second day of the draft during the last six seasons, the time frame in which general manager Tom Heckert and coach Andy Reid have been responsible for the Eagles’ draft.
Note: All 919 players drafted in rounds four through seven since the 2002 season were given a point total for their production with the team that selected them. They were not given points for what they did with other teams. Players received four points for each season they made the Pro Bowl, three points for each season they started all 16 games, two points for each season they started at least half their team’s games, and one point for playing in at least half their team’s games. Only 18 of the 919 players taken on the second day of the draft in the last six years have reached the Pro Bowl.
