3 ex-Eagles heading to College Football Hall of Fame

Three former Eagles players and a former Eagles rival were among the 14 players and three coaches selected to the College Football Hall of Fame Football Bowl Subdivision Class.

Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Ty Detmer bounced among the Eagles and five other NFL teams during his professional career. His college numbers at BYU, however, are remarkable.

Along with the Heisman, he won the Maxwell Award, two Davey O'Brien trophies and set 59 NCAA records. His 15,031 career passing yards and 121 touchdowns were NCAA bests at the time, and he still holds nine NCAA records.

Linebacker Mark Simoneau, who played for the Eagles, was a two-time All-American at Kansas State and is possibly the greatest defensive player in school history. He is only the second K-State player selected for the Hall.

He holds a school record with 251 career unassisted tackles, ranks third in school history with 400 total tackles, 52 TFL and eight forced fumbles.

He also played for the Falcons, Saints and Chiefs during his pro career.

Former Washington Redskins receiver Art Monk, who set multiple records during his college career at Syracuse. Monk also played three games with the Eagles in his final season in 1995 before retiring, but that was more like a cameo at the very end.

Among the other inductees are former Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson, who was a successful college coach at Oklahoma State and Miami, with five New Year's Day bowl appearances.
