Eagles finalize staff of coordinators and other assistant coaches
Eagles fans have spent the last few weeks reading reports from sources about who the Eagles have brought on as assistants on Chip Kelly's staff. Now the team has formally announced those hires.
Pat Shurmur, offensive coordinator
His résumé includes 10 seasons with the Eagles as tight ends coach (1999-2001) and quarterbacks coach (2002-08). He most recently served as the head coach for the Cleveland Browns from 2011-12.
Bill Davis, defensive coordinator
He has 21 years of NFL coaching experience after most recently serving as the Cleveland Browns linebackers coach from 2011-12.
Dave Fipp, special teams coordinator
He most recently served as the assistant special teams coach for the Miami Dolphins from 2011-12.
Offensive Assistant Coaches
Bill Lazor, quarterbacks
He spent the previous three seasons as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Virginia. Prior to that, he spent seven years coaching in the NFL, including as quarterbacks coach for the Seattle Seahawks (2008-09) and Washington Redskins (2006-07).
Jeff Stoutland, offensive line
He comes to Philadelphia after serving as the University of Alabama’s offensive line coach for the past two seasons.
Greg Austin, offensive line assistant
He served served as a graduate assistant on Chip Kelly's coaching staff at Oregon from 2011-12, and was a coaching intern with the Ducks in 2010.
Bob Bicknell, wide receivers
He spent the last three years with the Buffalo Bills as their wide receivers coach (2012) and tight ends coach (2010-11). Before that, he worked for three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs as assistant offensive line coach (2007), offensive line coach (2008) and tight ends coach (2009). In 2006, he was Temple University's offensive line coach.
Ted Williams, tight ends
Williams is a holdover from Andy Reid's coaching staff, and this coming season will be his 19th in Philadelphia. The 69-year-old joined the Eagles as the tight ends coach in 1995, when Ray Rhodes was in charge. He has spent the past 16 years coaching the team’s running backs.
Justin Peelle, tight ends assistant
The 33-year-old joins the Eagles after a 10-year NFL career as a tight end with the San Diego Chargers (2002-05), Miami Dolphins (2006-07), Atlanta Falcons (2008-10) and San Francisco 49ers (2011).
Duce Staley, running backs
A very familiar name to Eagles fans, Staley has received a promotion after spending the last two seasons as the special teams quality control coach.
Press Taylor, offensive quality control
He comes to Philadelphia after two seasons as an offensive graduate assistant and quarterbacks coach with the University of Tulsa.
Josh Hingst, strength and conditioning
He worked last year as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Prior stops include the University of Nebraska, the Atlanta Falcons and Florida State University.
Shaun Huls, sports science coordinator
This is his first stop in the NFL after most recently working as the head strength and conditioning coach and combatives coordinator for the Navy's Special Warfare unit.
Defensive/Special Teams Assistant Coaches
Jerry Azzinaro, Assistant Head Coach/defensive line
He served the same role on Chip Kelly’s staff at Oregon from 2009-12.
Erik Chinander, defensive line assistant
Another hire from Oregon. His last three years were spent on Chip Kelly’s staff as a graduate assistant (2011-12) and intern (2010).
John Lovett, defensive backs
His lengthy college career includes stints at Texas Tech, Miami (Fla.), Bowling Green, Clemson, Auburn, Maine and Cincinnati.
Todd Lyght, defensive backs assistant
A Super Bowl winner with the Rams when Dick Vermeil coached there, he spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant at Oregon.
Bill McGovern, outside linebackers
His most recent stop was at Boston College, where he was the program's linebackers coach for 12 years,. He was also their defensive coordinator from 20090 through 2012.
Rick Minter, inside linebackers
He spent the last two seasons as the defensive coordinator at Kentucky. From 1994 to 2003, he coached at the University of Cincinnati, where he worked with John Harbaugh, Rex Ryan and Mike Tomlin.
Mike Dawson, defensive quality control
He worked with Chip Kelly at New Hampshire as a defensive assistant coach.
Matthew Harper, special teams assistant
After playing at Oregon, he spent the last four years as an intern and a graduate assistant on Chip Kelly's staff.
