Reid: 'Pretty Significant' Vick Concussion

POSTED: Monday, November 12, 2012, 12:36 PM

Eagles coach Andy Reid all but acknowledged that quarterback Michael Vick won't play this Sunday at Washington.

Reid said Vick has a "pretty significant" concussion from Sunday's loss to the Cowboys. He said the Eagles will follow the league protocol, and that rookie Nick Foles will take the practice reps Wednesday.

"Michael's our quarterback, but I have confidence in Nick," said Reid, who danced around the issue of what would happen if Foles played well. He said he isn't thinking in terms of going to the rookie after a certain number of losses.

Reid said right guard Danny Watkins might be back this week. He wouldn't speculate on whether Dennis Kelly might move out to tackle in place of King Dunlap or Demetress Bell.

Ried said tackle Jason Peters, trying to come back from Achilles' surgery, won't practice this week.

14 years of: Yeah. I'm surprised Mike lasted as long as he did.
The poor guy has been hit over 190 times and sacked nearly 30 times.

Hey Vick- In some cultures, a competitor no longer able to perform at the highest of levels is body slammed into the concrete, electrocuted, drowned or strangled. Can you believe how barbaric that is, Michael? Thank G-d we here in Philly are much more civilized in the way we treat our athletes.

Not really, the defeated always get bad treatment from the gladiators to soldiers (losing side of war). Plus, you are comparing dogs to humans. DOGS! I have cats and dogs as pets, but they are just animals, no where near the level of importance as a human being.

i dont know if the concussion happened on the sims tackle, but it looked like sims was pushing vick backwards long after vick had gotten rid of the ball.. why wasnt a personal foul called there?

Jeffery...Show the leadership and courage and wisdom that AR lacks...and do it now.....AR Howie, Marty, Mudd, Washburn, April ALL must go....Hire Polian as a consultant and let him help you select football people and a real coach........Your soft approach only excerbates the problem...

The Eagles should follow Mike Shannahan's protocol and disregard concussions as just a slight headache that can be fixed by playing the game.

Maybe Reid has a wink wink agreement with Mike Vick. Goes like this: Vick agrees to sit out the rest of the season with this injury or that. Sitting out prevents a serious injury that is very possible with this O-line. Then when Reid gets fired and Vick released, they join up again at Reid's next job. Of course Vick gets another big contract.

It won't matter who we have at QB. The o-line is horrible. I wish Nick all the best and to stay healthy. I believe this a new era for the birds. I also feel that it will take quite some time to recover from the disastrous last few drafts. Whomever the coach is, let it be someone with personnel acumen. Otherwise, it will be much of the same product that has been trotted out on the field the last few years. Thankfully, the current regime's days are numbered. That is if Lurie has a brain.

Its been a tough year. Vick gave his all. Its Nick's turn, he is the future as I don't see the Birds keeping Vick next year.

Vick and Reid are all but gone. All we need to do is get to the last game of the season and two weeks later they pull the trigger.

Im no fan of Vick but the guy is as tough as they come for his size. I hope he lands somewhere and continues but hes not starter quality. I think hed be a perfect backup, if he jumps in mid season on a decent team he can actually do better that way. This is no time to make all the coaching changes you would need. You cant find all the talent you want mid season, youd just have to fire people again if a new staff is put in place. Wait it out.

-Lets Eat - that's the most ludicrous suggestion I've ever heard. Clearly Vick really got hurt. I don't like much about him but he guy takes almost as much punishment as he extracted on animals and keeps getting up for more so I can't see him faking an injury, much less when his QB rating was 127 with his job and his coaches job on the line. I don't think Andy Reid can count on a head coaching job next year anywhere for one, for two after his family matters he needs time off and lastly nobody is going to want Vick to start building a team around if Reid does get a job. If Vick has any value it will be to a team like the Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders or Kansas City that have some talent but no QB. I don't like his game and I have a hard time rooting for him, but I don't wish ill on anyone including Mr. Vick. Not sure if it's genuine but he's kept his nose clean for a couple years now and says the right things most of the time. I'll give him credit for growing up and learning from his mistakes, I hope for his sake and all dogs out there there that he continues to take the right path after his playing days are over.

I wouldn't put it past Reid and Vick to make this "concussion" more worse than it is so then the Eagles put in Foles for the remainder of the season, hope he messes up (since it is likely given that he is a rookie), and then blame Foles for a bad season while hoping that the crappy first half season with Vick is forgotten over the second half. Remember, Reid and Vick are tied together...so why not bring in a fall guy to take the brunt of them.

FIRE REID AND VICK NOW!!! They both have messed up personal lives!

Who is "Ried?" For Pete's sake, you basically have a 10-sentence article, and you can't catch typos? As you're typing your article and see a red squiggly line under a word, that means you have misspelled the word. I think your editors need to put you in a better position to write articles.

Ratliff should be suspended for as long as Vick is out and fined for pounding his entire weight and forearm into the middle of Vick's back during that tackle. That was clear intent to injure a defenseless player. (By the way, the subsequent play with Sims had nothing to do with Vick's concussion. Vick was already concussed at that point.)

Vick was a terrible 11-16 as Eagles QB....This kid Foles can't do worst...sure he will make some rookie mistakes but also will make some great plays and will get better and better, he is only 22 years old.

Its a miracle Vick lasted this long since he got hit on almost every pass play this year. He's a lot tougher than most people gave him credit. No quarterback will endure with this offensive line.

@Bedpan, so funny how they are so quick to call you an idiot and point to how greatful we should be becuase he is the winningest coach in our history (he also has more losses then any other coach in our history), yet they are nowhere to be found now. Goodbye to all of them, I would like to start rooting for the PHILADELPHIA Eagles again, not the Reid-Luire Eagles, they don;t represent me

Yeah groundhog day is partially gone for one week, now if they could take the training wheels off and get less predicatable, i.e. screen plays...When was the last time the eagles ran a sucessful screen play? I haven't seen a good one all year. By the way, was it not strange that the ref crew for the Philly home game against the Dallas, Texas Cowboys were from Texas? Some strange calls and no calls out there yesterday.

"Significant concussion" my a**. Unless all those hits finally caught up with him, what I watched wouldn't have given my grandmother a concussion. I think this is Reid's way of not having to admit a mistake by taking Vick out voluntarily. And, I think Reid was told by Lurie to play Foles for the rest of the year to see what he's got. Either way, unless Lurie goes back on his word, Reid is gone after the season. Only Reid can be, and MUST be held responsible for putting this train wreck together and for all the clueless play calls the last five or so years.

I think everyone calling for Foles to be put in all season are going to eventually regret that Vick got hurt and Foles in now the QB. With the sieve of an O-Line Andy has put on the field, it only a short matter of time until Foles suffers a similar fate. As much as I want Andy gone and Foles as QB, putting him in now, with no change to teh O-Line is just a recipe for disaster. I hope I'm wrong.

andy reids more than likely gonna stick with foles the rest of the year no matter what happens to michael vicks health.then at the end of the season the talk with lurie will be something like "jeff, the kids got potential and if i could have just a full season to groom him then we got something here"he will convince this owner then that he can right this ship and turn it around.and then the two will get with andys agent and negotiate a new contract.

What Lurie needs to do is to put Reid in a "better position for the players to make plays", namely out the back door.
