Andy Reid: Eagles will be OK

POSTED: Monday, October 8, 2012, 1:01 PM

Andy Reid seemed to want to calm the waters in his day-after news conference, following the Eagles' 16-14 loss at Pittsburgh Sunday.

Reid's message was that the 3-2 Eagles are generally playing well, that they have a couple of fundamental things they need to fix, but they are on the right path.

"We're the second-lowest-scoring team in the National Football League right now" because of turnovers, Reid said. "We've got to make sure we fix that ... We've done well with the interception part of it, we're doing a better job with the protection part of it, and the decision-making part of it, [now] we've got to take care of the football. Then, we've got to be able to get off the field on that last [Steelers] drive."

Reid noted that defensively, even though the Eagles' sack numbers are way down, so are their points allowed. He said teams are playing more conservatively, keeping in extra blockers, running shorter, quicker routes, because of the Birds' pressure.

Reid was asked about some of quarterback Michael Vick's statements following the game. Vick said he knows he has to stop fumbling, but he also repeated his familiar view that turnovers are part of the game, and even said that everything happens for a reason, indicating somehow that God or fate might cause him to give the ball away.

Reid said he was pretty sure Vick was asked about fumbling more than a few times Sunday. He did not seemed worried about the quarterback's mindset: "Nobody is more competitive than this guy. He knows he can't fumble...He's going to get that right."

Reid lauded "the grit of this football team, the toughness."

"We haven't been stopped as much as we've stopped ourselves," he said.

The only reported injuries from Sunday were Mychal Kendricks' ankle and Bryce Brown's shoulder. Both players should practice Wednesday, Andy Reid said.

O-line stinks....defense cannot stop the run....again, still, no surprise there....safeties stink.....special teams suck.....QB has trouble holding on to the ball......and Andy can be calming as he knows Jeffery does not have the stones to fire him....

I think Vick is fumbling on purpose. I think he is using a third party to support his gambling and therefore betting against his own team. I don't expect many to agree with me, but in a few years Vick is done here and may be under contract after Andy gets the boot. Once you get involved in illegal activities, I don't care how much money you make later, you don't change. This story will probably surface in years to come. And you guys used to call McNabb Mr Softee.

Andy Reid is a bumbling idiot. He and his loser Quarterback Vick must go. Reid should be fired immediately and Vick benched at the same time. The only reason Vick is still playing is because he was friends with Reid's felon son. They both had a good time together as they were both ex-cons. Mr. Laurie while you are getting rid of Reid and Vick please remove those initials from the team helmets. I don't see what good it does to enhance the memory of an overdosed druggie!

It seems as if the fans are taking Mike Vick at face value with what he said yesterday. Vick was simply saying that he is not perfect and some things just happen. True, if he held the ball better, he wouldn't be a fumble-machine. Stop worrying about his fumbling and worry about Fat Andy not being able to manage the time clock for over 14 years. GO MIKE VICK GO!

Forget all of this bad juju. I can recall the Iggles beating the Lions 55-27 in the playoffs in mid-90's. Big Rodney Peete at QB for that one. The Iggs are primed and ready to do it next week. I hear they are putting a big zipper pouch in vicks uniform so he can stuff the ball in there and not fumble. No worries - a big win for the Iggs next week, looks like 47-11.

Of the 11 remaining games only 3 are against teams that currently have a winning record. If the Eagles cannot get to the playoffs and win at least one game it will be OK to clean house. That means Vick, some of the much over-rated secondary, and most of the coaching staff. It's not or never, guys! And if Michael Vick doesn't know holding onto the football is pretty basic, he should be benched right away. He's only been playing quarterback all his life!

Tom Jackson on ESPN said it last night...it is the only stat that Mr. Lurie should need to see that these two men...Reid for choosing Vick and Vick himself should go.
In the last 21 games ...the eagles have turned the ball over 52 TIMES !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vick leads the NFL in FUMBLES. When he's not holding onto the ball to long , or reading a heavy sided blitz we now need to worry about fumbles. PLease go away. We should have let Pittsburgh get him when he got out of jail. Reid had misguided this team to mediocrity and he needs to leave. He and Vick just keep repeating the SAME MISTAKES year in and year out.

Here we go again!!! Reid says he will try harder next week and we keep on believing him. Why doesn't he just quit??? He has worn out his welcome in philly. we are tired of all his excuses and well worn tales. HE DOESN'T KNOW FOOTBALL!!! A GOOD HIGH SCHOOL COACH WILL BE BETTER
