Reid: "We got to look at" safety position

The Eagles will have some tough choices to make at the safety position over the next few days, but they won't have much to do with letting go of players that other teams would snatch up the instant they hit the waiver wire.
With little depth at the position, the Eagles will surely be combing the waiver wire after NFL teams trim their rosters to 53 on Friday.
"I got to look at that," Reid said Thursday after the Eagles beat the Jets, 28-10, in the preseason finale. "That's one of the spots I got to look at and just make sure we're set there. We'll do that."
Nate Allen and Kurt Coleman are the starting safeties. Aside from a few hamstring injuries that Allen has had this preseason, the Eagles are set there. There is some concern about both, however, based on their first two seasons in the NFL.
That's why the backup safety position is so important. O.J. Atogwe was signed in June to add veteran experience to the position. But the 31-year-old safety who played most of his career in St. Louis, has been injured most of the preseason.
He aggravated a hamstring strain in the first quarter of Thursday's night's game and did not return.
"The Eagles wouldn't be in this bind if Jaiquawn Jarrett had developed."
Not to beat a dead horse, but the Eagles wouldn't be in this bind if they had drafted Earl Thomas.
Penfold18- The fact of the matter is that the Eagles have drafted players that are marginal in talent for financial reasons for most of Reid Lurie connection. Now that collective bargining agreement assures that players regardless of status or round will exceed the league limits in salary they can target players regardless of talent and not feel they made a bad decision for their future. This is the first draft the Eagles ever drafted for talent at every slot. And they did a good job. Jarrett was a Matt Mccoy, Teo, pick. Not saying he is a bust quite yet because Juan isnt really good at his job. But they could put marsh at free safety and let Allen play strong. Zeru

Why not sign Nick Collins or Bob Sanders? Those guys may have a little injury problems but they're better than what we already have. DeathPenalty94
"I got to look at that"
And sir please tell me what you have been looking at? urbnasty
Allen and coleman are fine as starters, it's the depth that's the problem. sore richard
To echo Penfold, They were looking at one right in their face. Earl Thomas was right there man!! What in the world was Reid thinking? Geno D
Zeru With all due respect you have no idea what you are talking about. For years those draft picks were slotted ..You paid a certain price for where you picked, not the position. Defensive lineman cost the same as WR So when the Eagles moved up and took a stiff like McDougal they paid him the same thing they would pay another else drafted at that spot. Give them grief for picking poor players, but not for doing it for money reasons mcat13- I was going to make a similar post, but decided that it couldn't be said much better than you did. The Eagles just drafted poorly....the Eagles HAD a reputation for being cheap, but they have moved up in the draft to take "better" players (with higher price tags due to their draft slot) and they have paid BIG saleries for free agents, but that doesn't mean that it has always worked out.

I would like to read an article on Ryan Rau. He has done enought to warrant a conversation. amblereagles
I would trade Babin for the best safety I can get, call it a day. beegal99

Please don't hold onto busts like Jarrett and Matthews while unloading deserving players like Polk, Rau or Gilyard! cooperhawk
Move Keenan Clayton to safety. Can't hurt. The Birds have tried crazier experiments such as Gocong to LB, Greg Lewis to KO returns and the craziest of all Juan Castillo to Defensive Coord section117- SECTION117 - Well said!
