Staff predictions for Eagles vs. Chiefs

Les Bowen: If Carson Wentz and the Eagles' defense can pull this off, the sky's the limit. But I am not convinced that the sky IS the limit, just yet. Don't like the Eagles' offensive line I saw last week against a really tough front, in an even louder road environment. Strongly suspect Eagles still won't have a viable run game.

Is Eric Berry a bigger loss to the Chiefs than Ron Darby is to the Eagles? Maybe, but given that the Chiefs are an established playoff team, with Marcus Peters in their secondary and solid depth, I doubt it.

I like Jalen Mills. Don't like him covering Tyreek Hill.

The only way the Eagles win this is if Wentz is on fire, or if the Chiefs have spent the week-plus since they demolished the Patriots with their feet up, accepting congratulations. That's not how Andy Reid generally uses extra prep time.

Prediction: Chiefs 24, Eagles 17

Jeff McLane: The Chiefs clearly have the advantage with their primary offensive skill-set players. Tyreek Hill could be a long-distance nightmare for Jalen Mills. Travis Kelce should be a handful for Malcolm Jenkins. And rookie Kareem Hunt, who already looks like a stud, will draw lots of attention from Eagles linebackers both on the ground and through the air. But the Eagles have more talent up front, at least on that side of the ball. But will they be able to score enough points against a Kansas City defense that has multiple playmakers even without injured safety Eric Berry? The Eagles will likely need more production on the ground. A matchup to watch closely: center Jason Kelce vs. former Eagles nose tackle Bennie Logan.

Prediction: Chiefs 27, Eagles 19

​Paul Domowitch: Right off the top, I can think of five reasons why the Eagles aren't going to win Sunday. They're playing on the road in one of the league's loudest stadiums. They don't have their best cornerback, Ronald Darby.

They found themselves in eight third-and-longs last week against Washington, which doesn't bode well. They have a new kicker. And while left tackle Jason Peters says the groin injury that limited him to 31 snaps last week is as good as new, I'll believe that when he goes out there and plays the entire game.

Just having trouble visualizing a win in this one.

Prediction: Chiefs 24, Eagles 17

Zach Berman: The Chiefs are talented, well-coached, playing with extra rest, and playing at home. It's hard to see find a reason the Eagles will leave Kansas City with a win. Their best bet is Carson Wentz taking advantage of a Chiefs secondary without Eric Berry patrolling the middle. The defense has forced turnovers at a high rate since the start of the preseason, so they need to continue to stick with Kansas City. But the Chiefs are creative on offense and have playmakers to challenge the Eagles. The Eagles will return for their home opener next week with a 1-1 record.

Prediction: Chiefs 28, Eagles 23
