Four Royals to start in All-Star Game

Houston second baseman Jose Altuve passed Kansas City's Omar Infante in the final days of voting, leaving four Royals as starters for the All-Star Game.

Todd Frazier of the host Cincinnati Reds leapfrogged Matt Carpenter of the St. Louis Cardinals and will be in the NL starting lineup at third base for the July 14 game at Great American Ball Park.

The voting results were announced Sunday.

AL champion Kansas City will be represented in the starting lineup by outfielders Lorenzo Cain and Alex Gordon, catcher Salvador Perez and shortstop Alcides Escobar. Four players ties the AL record for fan-elected starters, achieved nine times previously.

Other AL starters are Angels outfielder Mike Trout, a Millville native; Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera; and Blue Jays third Josh Donaldson.

For the National League, the other starters are Giants catcher Buster Posey; Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt; Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon; Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta; and outfielders Bryce Harper (Nationals); Matt Holliday (Cardinals); and Giancarlo Stanton (Marlins).

Cabrera and Stanton are on the disabled list and will be replaced. Holliday has been out with a quadriceps injury since June 8 and may not be ready to play.

Pitchers and reserves will be announced Monday.

Who's on first? Ortiz

For the first time in nearly 10 years, David Ortiz used his glove to start a game at Fenway Park.

He hardly needed it. For the first time in the 17,867 games the Red Sox have played, the team's first baseman did not have a putout, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Ortiz did have an assist on a putout by pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez.

Strasburg on DL

The Washington Nationals put pitcher Stephen Strasburg back on the 15-day disabled list, this time with a strained left oblique.

The team made the move Sunday before playing San Francisco on Strasburg bobblehead night. Righthander Taylor Jordan was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse.
