Local college hoops at a glance

Facts and figures about the city’s six Division I schools.

DREXEL

Last season: Went 11-19 overall, but did well to go 9-9 in the Colonial despite numerous injuries. Leading scorer Damion Lee transferred to Louisville.

Outlook: Picked to finish eighth out of 10 in the competitive CAA . . . Senior guard Tavon Allen should hit 1,000 points midseason . . . Forward Kazembe Abif, who had 15 points and 11 rebounds in a game against Alabama two years ago, is back after missing last season with a knee injury.

Three fun games:

Nov. 26-28: Great Alaska Shootout

Dec. 15: at South Carolina, 7

Dec. 19: vs. Penn State (Palestra), 7

LA SALLE

Last season: Went 17-16, lost to regular-season champ Davidson at the buzzer in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals.

Outlook: Junior Jordan Price, a transfer from Auburn, is the next terrific guard to come through the program . . . Have to replenish a lot up front with the departures of Jerrell Wright and Steve Zack . . . Lost to Division II Philly U. in an exhibition game last week.

Three fun games:

Dec. 13: at No. 11 Villanova, 5

Dec. 22: vs. Miami (Palestra), 5

Jan. 20: vs. Temple (Palestra), 7

PENN

Last season: Went 9-19, which prompted the hiring of Steve Donahue, who was an assistant under Fran Dunphy during the 1990s glory years.

Outlook: Senior Tony Hicks, the only double-figure scorer from a year ago, will not play this season. Hicks is due to graduate in May and is expected to use his final year of eligibility to play elsewhere . . . Center Darien Nelson-Howard (8.5) is now the leading returning scorer and Cherry Hill East product Jake Silpe, a guard, is the Quakers top freshman.

Three fun games:

Nov. 21: at Washington, time TBA

Dec. 9: vs. Temple, 7

Dec. 28: at No. 11 Villanova, 7

SAINT JOSEPH'S

Last season: Went 13-18 with eight of those losses by five points or less.

Outlook: Have arguably the best player in the Atlantic 10 in junior forward DeAndre' Bembry and an interesting freshmen class led by Checco Oliva, Chris Clover and Lamarr Kimble. Markell Lodge, who redshirted last year, also is in his first season of play.

Three fun games:

Nov. 21: vs. Florida (at Uncasville, Conn.), 2:30

Dec. 1: vs. No. 11 Villanova, 7

Dec. 13: at Temple, 4

TEMPLE

Last season: Went 26-11, but was the last team left out of the NCAA Tournament. The Owls lost three times to SMU, but drilled Kansas by 25. The second-seeded Jayhawks lost in the first weekend to Wichita State.

Outlook: Point guard Will Cummings, a leader on and off the court, is gone, but there is plenty back for the Owls to build on - including last year's run to the NIT semifinals. Jaylen Bond is a great defensive player and Quenton DeCosey (12.3) is the leading returning scorer. Both are seniors, which is never a bad thing.

Three fun games:

Friday: vs. No. 1 North Carolina (at Annapolis, Md.), 7

Nov. 19-22: Puerto Rico Tip-Off

Dec. 5: at No. 17 Wisconsin, 12:30

VILLANOVA

Last season: Went 33-3 to set a school record for wins, but the loss to N.C. State in the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament diminished the accomplishment.

Outlook: Lost leading scorer Darrun Hilliard and inside force JayVaughn Pinkston, yet are still the preseason favorite to win the Big East. League co-player of the year Ryan Arcidiacono is a senior and Jalen Brunson, Rick's son, is one of the most anticipated freshmen in the Jay Wright era.

Three fun games:

Dec. 7: vs. No. 8 Oklahoma

(Honolulu), 7

Dec. 19: at No. 6 Virginia, 12

Feb. 17: at Temple, 7
