Villanova QB John Robertson is done for the year

Fifth-year senior has a complete tear of his right posterior cruciate ligament.

JOHN ROBERTSON'S season is now officially over. So too is his collegiate career.

Villanova's fifth-year senior quarterback, who won the 2014 Walter Payton Award as the top offensive player in FCS, will not return this season, after suffering a complete tear of the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the fourth quarter of the Delaware game on Sept. 19.

At the time, he said he would forgo surgery and rehab the injury in the hopes he might be able to return. After consulting with doctors, he still won't have surgery. But he won't be coming back, either. He'll wear a brace for the next 10 to 12 weeks, then rehab for another two to three months to try to get himself ready for a possible shot at the NFL.

The 14th-ranked Wildcats (2-2, 1-0 Colonial Athletic) host William & Mary (2-2, 1-1) on Saturday, with redshirt freshman Zach Bednarczyk at QB. He helped rally the 'Cats past the Blue Hens after Robertson was hurt, but they lost to Penn (1-2) on Sept. 24 at home.
