Villanova's Jalen Brunson named to USA Basketball Under-19 team

The incoming freshman will play in the FIBA World Championships in Greece.

VILLANOVA incoming freshman Jalen Brunson, considered one of the top lead-guard prospects in the country, has made the 12-man roster for the USA Basketball Under-19 team that will play in the FIBA World Championships in Crete, Greece, from June 27 to July 5.

Brunson was part of the U-18 team that qualified for this competition by winning the FIBA Americas title last summer. In the first game, he broke Stephon Marbury's 20-year-old USA Basketball record with 13 assists against Uruguay.

Two other guards - Allonzo Trier (headed to Arizona) and Isaiah Briscoe (Kentucky-bound) - also return from that squad.

Arizona's Sean Miller is the head coach, though the roster decisions were made by coaches and Junior National Team committee members. Dayton's Archie Miller, his brother, and Ed Cooley of Providence are the assistants.

The team will train at Colorado Springs, Colo., until it leaves for Greece on Sunday.
