Villanova lands transfer from Fordham

Eric Paschall was the A-10 Rookie of the Year this past season, but announced he was leaving after Rams coach was fired.

VILLANOVA'S basketball program has effectively landed its second recruit for the class of 2016.

Eric Paschall, a 6-6 swing man from Fordham who was the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year this past season, is transferring to the Main Line. He must sit out next season and will then have three years of eligibility remaining.

The Wildcats earlier received an oral commitment from Amari Spellman, a junior at The MacDuffie School in Granby, Mass., who's considered among the nation's top power forward prospects.

This fall, coach Jay Wright will welcome one of the country's top lead guards, Jalen Brunson.

The Wildcats must replace three starters from a team that went 33-3 this past season and lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second straight March.

Paschall averaged 15.9 points and 5.5 rebounds for the Rams, who finished 10-21. When coach Tom Pecora was fired after five seasons, Paschall announced he was considering leaving. His other finalists were Kansas, Florida and Providence.

A New York native, he spent one season at St. Thomas More Prep in Oakdale, Conn. Pecora was Wright's assistant at Hofstra before succeeding him as the head coach when Wright moved to Villanova.
