The Villanova senior was named the "Outstanding Track Athlete" at the Big East championship meet at Villanova, winning both the 1,500 and 5,000 meters yesterday. Her winning times of 4 minutes, 19.41 seconds and 16:30.13, respectively, both met qualifying standards for the NCAA regionals.
Arusha McKenzie won the women's 800 (2:07.21), while Bobby Curtis was the lone Wildcat champion in men's events, winning the 5,000 in 14:23.47.
Villanova's women finished fifth in team results behind victorious Louisville, while the men finished eighth (Notre Dame, first).
In the Atlantic 10:
La Salle's Steven Rendall won the 110-meter (14.53 seconds) and 400-meter hurdle (53.50) events, and was named "Co-Performer of the Meet" in Amherst, Mass.
Sean Quigley won the 5,000 (14:16.60) and Adam Woodford the decathlon (6150 points) as La Salle's men finished third behind Rhode Island and Charlotte; Temple was sixth and Saint Joseph's was eighth.
In women's events, Explorer senior Rachel Papin became the conference's first three-time winner in the 5,000 meters, setting a meet record of 16:27.48, and Temple's Devon Dupont won the school's first title in the heptathlon. Charlotte won the women's title, with Temple fourth, La Salle seventh and St. Joe's eighth. *
