Villanova to host exhibition doubleheader for humanitarian cause
Villanova will host a men-women basketball exhibition doubleheader on Nov. 1 at Jake Nevin Field House to help raise funds for the hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico.
The Villanova men's and women's basketball teams will host an exhibition doubleheader at the Jake Nevin Field House on Nov. 1 to help raise funds for the people victimized by Hurricane Irma in Puerto Rico.
The women will play East Stroudsburg at 6 p.m., followed by the men taking on Drexel at 8:30.
All proceeds will benefit the organization "Unidos Por Puerto Rico." Additional donations can be made at www.unidosporpuertorico.com.
"The impact … on our fellow citizens has been tragic," said Villanova Director of Athletics Mark Jackson, in a release. "We are grateful that the NCAA is permitting its members to participate in making donations in this unique way as we get ready for the college season. "I hope the Nova Nation will join us in supporting this relief effort."
Tickets are priced at $30, and will be offered to the university's season-ticket holders beginning Monday morning. If there are tickets left 24 hours later, they will be offered to the general public through the ticket office and at villanova.com. Seating capacity is 1,500.
Villanova's men, who went 32-4 last season and will open this one in the Top 10, start for real on Nov. 10 at the Wells Fargo Center against Columbia. The Pavilion is closed this season while it undergoes an extensive renovation.
