It’s down to two bowl games for Temple, both in Florida, according to a source.
The Owls, who at this point still don’t know their destination, will either play in the Boca Raton Bowl on Dec. 19 or the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl on Dec. 21 in St. Petersburg.
Temple was hoping to know by now, but the source said that until the four-team playoff field is decided, then many bowls are left up in the air because of the trickle-down effect.
Two years ago Temple lost to Toledo, 32-17 in the 2015 Boca Raton Bowl.
The Owls (6-6) became bowl eligible with last week’s 43-22 win at Tulsa. This will be the third straight year Temple will compete in a bowl, the first time in school history.
Both Florida bowls have a primary affiliation with Temple’s conference, the American Athletic Conference. The AAC is supposed to play a Conference USA Team in both bowls, but that isn’t even etched in stone.
Temple, according to the source was also being considered for two other bowls that have a primary affiliation with the AAC, the Birmingham Bowl on Dec. 23 and the Hawaii Bowl on Dec. 24, but those two have been eliminated.
