Temple-Michigan State postgame wrap
Mike Kern: Temple’s season ends with first-round loss
Rich Hofmann: For Temple, a quick and unfulfilling end

Sorry this took me so long to get to; I'm actually running the entire Philly.com home page today so I'm juggling a bunch of other things.

(Why any of that matters as much as the NCAA Tournament is beyond me, but also isn't my decision.)

It's hard to not be disappointed by Temple's effort today. Michigan State played good defense, but just as many of the Owls' offensive problems seemed to be of their own making.

The Owls shot 21-for-56 from the field (37.5%), including 6-for-23 from three-point range (26.1%) and 15-for-33 from two-point range (45.5%), and 13-for-19 from the free throw line (68.4%). Nine offensive rebounds, 18 defensive rebounds, 14 assists, 11 turnovers, two blocks, seven steals and 10 fouls committed.

That adds up to 66 possessions and 0.919 points per possession.

The Spartans shot 26-for-54 from the field (48.1%), including 4-for-15 from three-point range (26.7%) and 22-for-39 from two-point range (56.4%), and 16-for-18 from the free throw line (88.9%). Nine offensive rebounds, 24 defensive rebounds, 19 assists, 12 turnovers, two blocks, four steals and 18 fouls committed.

That adds up to 65 possessions and 1.109 points per possession.

I'm going to give a line of the game to each team. I would have given one to just Raymar Morgan of Michigan State, but what Lavoy Allen did today totally blew me away. For a first ever NCAA Tournament game as a freshman, this was pretty impressive.

As for other games, Marquette's Lazar Heyward just threw down a monster jam against Kentucky. "Derrick Jasper is now on a poster," CBS announcer Carter Blackburn said.

About Jonathan Tannenwald
I fell in love with the Big 5 at first sight upon moving to Philadelphia in 2002. At various points in my journalistic career, I've covered all six of the region's Division I teams. During that time, I've eaten many soft pretzels from the Palestra's concession stands, which is how this blog got its name.

I also occasionally contribute to the Inquirer's women's basketball weblog, Women's Hoops Guru.

Soft Pretzel is on Facebook. Click here to become a fan, upload your own photos and videos, or post on the discussion boards.
