Snow takes Owls defensive coordinator job

Sources have confirmed that Phil Snow will become Temple's new defensive coordinator.

The California native spent the past three seasons as Eastern Michigan's defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. The 57-year-old replaces Chuck Heater, who left to become the defensive coordinator at Marshall. Heater, reportedly, was not offered the Temple coordinator job after new head coach Matt Rhule was hired last month.

Snow comes to Temple with 17 years of coaching experience that includes stops in the NFL and the PAC-10.

He was the Detroit Lions defensive backs coach from 2005-09 before heading to Eastern Michigan in 2010.

A respected coaching mind, Snow had defensive coordinator stints at Laney College (1980-81), Boise State (82-86), Arizona State (1992-2000), UCLA (2001-02) and Washington (2003-04). He was the defensive backs coach at California in 1987-91.

Rhule worked under Snow as the assistant defensive line coach at UCLA in 2001.
