Meadville cornerback commits to Temple

POSTED: Friday, August 10, 2012, 4:23 PM

Meadville High defensive back Artrel Foster recently gave a verbal commitment to play football at Temple.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder senior chose the Owls over scholarship offers from Eastern Michigan, Youngstown State and Duquesne.

“I just like the campus and the coaches at Temple,” said Foster, who attended Temple’s football camp on July 28. “I just like their program. I can tell that it is going to be successful.”

The 18-year-old, who is a standout two-way player in the Erie area, said he accepted the Owls' scholarship offer Saturday.

As a lockdown corner, Foster had three interceptions this season despite teams rarely throwing to his side. As a tailback, he rushed for 1,119 yards.

Temple is recruiting him to play cornerback or safety.

Meadville might be one of the few areas that makes North Philly look posh.

I have to say I thought the same thing you did when I read this, but something told me to put my trust in Dr Daz.

I went on-line and did some research on the kid and found out that as a sophomore he and his family were invited to Hershey for the the Big33 Game where he was honored as one of the top 50 Sophomores in PA. Then I went to find some video on him. I watched ten minutes of video and all I have to say is I was convinced in the first 3 minutes that this young man has skills on both sides of the ball. Where I was amazed was his ability to close-in with incredible quickness and make open field tackles. Must be his 4.3 -4.4 speed....

I can't wait to see Artel Foster as a Temple Owl!

Stop! People are always complaining about kids from the area signing elsewhere! Is nice that these kids are starting to seriously considering Temple! The future is bright for Temple football!

VINNI. IT'S NOT WHERE YOU COME FROM....IT'S WHERE YOU WIND UP. FOUR YEARS UNDERGRAD AND FOUR YEARS DENTAL AT TEMPLE WORKED FINE FOR ME. I RECENTLY RETIRED...LIVE IN PALM BEACH, FLORIDA AND SUMMER ON NANTUCKET. IF YOU GRADUATE, YOU MIGHT LOOK BACK ON YOUR EXPERIENCE IN NORTH PHILLY DIFFERENTLY

Temple is recruiting players before they hit the radar of the football factories. Vinni is a ninni; Meadville is a nice town/

Disregarding the rather nasty and "so what" comment, the name Vinni reminds me of a past great Temple defensive lineman - Vinni Minnie from Parsippani (NJ)- anyone remember him? His name was written up in Sports Illustrated as one of the most unusual or catchy names for a football player in the country at the time (30 some years ago?). I agree that Daz is getting kids that are under the radar but have great potential - most TU players are like that and look how many the last 2 years went to the NFL. Go Owls.

Great pick up, I watched a little film on him. I know we had the higher ranked recruits but guys fall through the cracks, remeber Jaqwain Jarret?, gives me a lot of confidence that Daz is picked these guys up before other find them or the commit to lesser schools. Good for Daz.
