Temple women fall to Michigan in WNIT quarterfinals

The Owls got off to a strong start, leading, 23-9, after the first quarter. Though the Wolverines picked up the pace, Temple still led, 42-32, at halftime.

The Wolverines went on an 8-0 run over the final 59 seconds of the third quarter on three-pointers from Siera Thompson and Katelynn Flaherty, followed by a Flaherty jumper to beat the clock to head to the fourth quarter tied at 60.

Alliya Butts' jumper with 51 seconds left in the game gave the Owls their final lead, at 76-75, but the Wolverines went ahead, 77-76, on a jumper by Hallie Thome with eight seconds left.

Tanaya Atkinson added 17 points and eight rebounds for Temple (23-12). Erica Covile had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Flaherty scored 23 points to lead Michigan (21-13), which will play Florida Gulf Coast, a 61-46 winner over Hofstra on Monday night, in the WNIT semifinals on Thursday.
