Addazio won't have to coach against his son when Temple hosts Syracuse

There was a lot of excitement in the Addazio household this summer over the regular season college football finale between Temple and Syracuse.

The thought was that the game would be a fun-loving family feud.

But Orange tight end Louis Addazio, the son of Temple coach Steve Addazio, is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. So the redshirt freshman won't play against the Owls (5-6, 2-4 Big East) in Friday's 11 a.m. game at Lincoln Financial Field.

Since Syracuse (6-5, 4-2) is heading to the Atlantic Coast Conference next season, this could be the only time the Addazios are on opposing sidelines.

"Him not playing makes it easier," Steve Addazio said of preparing for his son's team. "If he was competing, you're evaluating your son. That would make it much more difficult."

Still, the two continued their daily phone conversations this week. They're just staying away from talking about football.

"I can't not talk to my son," Addazio said. "We'll have [Thanksgiving] dinner Saturday with the family. Right now it's all about Friday at 11. Saturday's a different day."

Addazio will hold a Thanksgiving dinner with his team Thursday.

Senior day. Temple will honor 12 seniors before what could be their final game in an Owls uniform.

The seniors to be honored are running back Matt Brown, free safety Vaughn Carraway, strong safety Justin Gildea, defensive end Marcus Green, wideout C.J. Hammond, running back Montel Harris, defensive back Maurice Jones, punter/placekicker Brandon McManus, wideout Darryl Shine, linebacker Ahkeem Smith, offensive tackle Martin Wallace, and defensive end John Youboty.

Offensive lineman Sean Boyle will not participate in the pregame ceremony because he received a medical redshirt that will enable him to play next season.

Harris tops in Big East. Harris leads the conference with an average of 105.3 rushing yards per game, 12 touchdowns, and an average of eight points per game. The Boston College transfer's record-setting performance against Army has a lot to do with his leading the conference in those categories. Harris rushed for Temple and Big East records of 351 yards and seven touchdowns in Saturday's 63-32 victory.
