Temple's Moore, Fernandez named to all-star contest

Temple guards Ramone Moore (Southern) and Juan Fernandez were named to the East team for the annual National Association of Basketball Coaches Reese's Division I All-Star game, to be held Friday in New Orleans as part of Final Four weekend.

Mike Noone (La Salle) was named the Patriot League defensive player of the week and the Mountain Hawks (9-1) jumped to No. 7 in the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll following victories over No. 17 Penn State and rival Holy Cross.

Villanova's Stephen Ostapeck was named the Big East pitcher of the week on Monday for firing a three-hit shutout in an 8-0 win over St. John's. The 6-foot-6 righthander is the first Wildcat since 1996 to pitch two complete-game shutouts in a season.

Noteworthy: La Salle's Dan Klem was named the Atlantic Ten baseball player of the week after hitting safely in all five games as the Explorers went 3-2. . . . Temple lefthander Patrick Peterson was named the A-10 rookie of the week. . . . Temple shortstop Sarah Prezioso was named the A-10 softball player of the week for the second straight time. . . . Rutgers-Camden trackmen earned honors from the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Javelin man Tim VanLiew (Deptford) was named the field athlete of the week and hurdler Matt Curtis (West Deptford) was tabbed the track athlete. . . . Widener's Mark Kane (Ridley) was named Middle Atlantic Conference player of the week in men's lacrosse. . . . Widener's Jason Ferrie (Spring-Ford) was named Commonwealth Conference pitcher of the week.
