A 2 p.m. press conference has been scheduled for today when Temple is expected to name Tonya Cardoza as its new women's basketball coach, replacing Dawn Staley, who took the head job at South Carolina.
Cardoza has been an assistant at Connecticut under Geno Auriemma for 14 seasons. During that time, the Huskies have won five national championships. Cardoza was a teammate of Staley's at the University of Virginia.
Staley, who starred at Dobbins Tech, had a 172-80 record during her 8-year coaching run with the Owls, including six NCAA Tournament appearances and four Atlantic 10 titles. *
