Several sources familiar with the search said yesterday that the longtime Connecticut assistant coach was likely to be named as Dawn Staley's replacement today or tomorrow.
However, an official with the Temple athletic department said that none of the candidates has been offered the job.
Cardoza, 39, a former teammate of Staley's at Virginia, has been on Geno Auriemma's Huskies staff for the last 14 seasons. Staley quit the Temple job in May to take over at South Carolina.
Although Temple's initial list in the search to replace Staley included a long list of candidates, Cardoza and Natasha Adair, the Wake Forest associate head coach, were the only candidates given formal interviews, according to several sources.
A native of Roxbury, Mass., Cardoza has been involved with all five NCAA championships under Auriemma's guidance at UConn.
Neither Cardoza nor Temple athletic director Bill Bradshaw could be reached for comment last night.
