Temple safety calls PSU fan support "a cult type of thing"

Temple safety Justin Gildea knows first-hand what Penn State football means to Central Pennsylvanians.

Growing up, the Altoona native attended countless Nittany Lion games with his father, Stephen, a PSU alumnus.

"It’s kind of like a cult type of thing," the senior said. "Everybody from around that area all they talk about is Penn State.  Every Saturday is Penn State football. Penn State this. Penn State that.

"So I guess you can say like it’s a big cult following kind of thing."

So, the Eagles must be a cult type of thing?

Temple will never know or experience the enthusiasm of a football weekend on their campus. There are several major programs that have the same fan support, so, they must also be considered a cult. Temple would love to have 10% of the fan support that occurs every football weekend in State College.

Temple just needs to win. Everything else will take care of itself.

...great devotion to some person, idea or thing. That's how Webster defines a cult. So Gildea used the term correctly. PSU football actually is a state-wide cult - and that's ok. Don't take it as a slap PSU fans. But really I agree with Clifton - just win Temple.

Welcome to the Sports World, Justin.
Philadelphia residents usually belong to the Eagles/Phillies/Flyers/76ers "cult"
Pittsburghers worship the Steelers/Pirates/Penguins, and the diehard extremists are even loyal to Pitt.
Down in Alabama they have the Crimson Tide.
Auburn cultists squawk "War Eagle" even though their mascot is a Tiger.
And the Texas Aggies get really strange.
You'll discover that there are many "cults" in the world, Justin, just as soon as you understand that the world is a lot bigger than Altoona.

tmccirish... are you kidding? PSU fans are way more dedicated than TU fans. When PSU is bad, they still sell out there stadium. When TU was bad, you were lucky to attract 8,000, and most were fans of the teams Temple was playing. Frauds? Hardly!

There's not much entertainment or cultural activity in Central Pennsylvania, Utah or Kentucky. Human minds stagnate and humans will handle snake, marry mutliple women, and worship football teams.
