Owls step up recruitment of Savon Goodman

Constitution High coach Rob Moore and assistant coach Dave Elliott are now scheduled to meet with Temple as early as Thursday to discuss the recruitment of Generals forward Savon Goodman, according to multiple sources.

The meeting was orginally scheduled for Wednesday night, but was postponed due to a scheduling conflict, according to one of the sources.

Goodman will not attend the meeting.

One source said the Temple wants to meet with the coaches to ask questions about Goodman. They want to know about his personality and what type of person the 6-foot-6 senior is. According to another source, the Owls are expected to offer Goodman a scholarship. Temple also wants to know the likelihood of Goodman accepting the Owls’ offer, the source added.

As of Monday, there was thought that Goodman would attend prep school next year even though he meets the necessary NCAA academic standards for freshman eligibility. He wanted to spend the year working on his outside shooting.

Goodman, who transferred from the Academy of the New Church last summer, averaged 25.8 points, 14.2 rebounds, two blocks and two steals en route to leading Constitution to the PIAA Class A state title.

In addition to Temple, Kentucky, Missouri, Kansas, Memphis, Pitt, UNLV and UCLA are believed to be possible destinations.

Goodman backed out of an oral commitment to play at Villanova in August.

It is believed that Goodman backed out of the oral commit to Nova when he was informed he didn't qualify and would have to prep a year for admittance.

Well it looks like he is going to qualify now. Hopefully he commits to the Owls, it would be a big get for Dunph and crew.

I really don't want to sound like a "Negative Nancy," but I truly believe that the game has passed Dunphy by. I respect that he is such a good guy who is well-respected in all coaching circles but the mantra that freshmen have to earn playing time is a thing of the past (see Kentucky). I don't want a bunch of "one and dones" but I'm also sick of being "one and done" in the tourney under Dunphy. Let the freshman play against Fordham, GW, URI, and the MAC opponents. I am really surprised more players haven't transferred like AB. Get me Shaka for BE play.

Big east is an appealing prospect for the Owls to market against.

Temple already has two 4 star rated recruits coming in. Those two would be Dingle and Decosey. Both are scoring machines. Temple also has a center coming. Add Savon to the mix and it's Dunphys best recruiting class.

Temple needs to land these 5-star recruits for success in the BE...They need to land Goodman...then follow that up with Jefferson and Jordan next year

The center is a scoring, rebounding, blocking machine whose hign school team won the 2A state title. Sounds good. Go Owls.

The center is DeVontae (shoot, don't know his last name), a 6-10 scoring, rebounding, shot blocking machine whose HS team won the AA state PA title. He'll be at Temple this year I think. It was listed in the latest issue of Sports Illustrated - great publicity. Sounds good for Dunphy and the Owls.

I think Goodman will have to do a lot to exist for the team. No doubt he may help in his attitudes and hard work for the team work. Since he may be offered a scholarship for his up coming work in the team it is to checked through about what he can manage to do in the work. I certainly can tell that this is a good offer to have in the team work.
