Yerk goal lifts St. Joseph's in field hockey

Junior Sarah Yerk (Pennridge) broke a scoreless tie with 3 minutes, 23 seconds remaining to give St. Joseph's (3-3) a 1-0 field hockey win Sunday over visiting Rider at Ellen Ryan Field.

Amelia Deibler earned her first career shutout in the win. Deibler and the defense held the Broncs (2-4) without a shot over the final five minutes of the game.

Liberty 3, Penn 2 - The host Quakers (2-2) held a 2-1 advantage at halftime, on goals by Elizabeth Hitti and Alexa Hoover (Methacton), but fell to the Flames (2-4).

Maryland 3, Temple - Despite an impressive defensive effort that included 17 saves by goaltender Lizzy Millen, the Owls (4-2) fell to the host Terrapins (5-1).

Women's Soccer

La Salle 2, James Madison 1 -

The host Explorers (3-2-2) scored twice in the second half and held off the Dukes (4-3-0).

Kelsey Haycook and Danielle Marx scored for La Salle.

St. Joseph's 1, LIU Brooklyn 0 - Shannon Mulvey scored in the first half as the Hawks (5-3) beat the Blackbirds (0-6) at home.

Drexel 2, Syracuse 2 - After two overtimes, the host Dragons (15-1) finished deadlocked with the Orange (3-2-3). Lauren Stollar scored both goals for Drexel.

Women's Tennis

West Chester's Claire Uhle (Wissahickon) reached the finals of the singles competition in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference individual championships, but did not have enough left to complete her Cinderella run to the title, falling, 6-0, to Mercyhurst's Saoia Gomez on South Campus.
