St. Joe's Galloway, Roberts to play in tourney for NBA draft picks

Langston Galloway and Ronald Roberts Jr. will compete in Portsmouth (Va.) Invitational Tournament.

SAINT JOSEPH'S three senior starters finished terrific careers with an Atlantic 10 championship. All would have been invited to the Portsmouth (Va.) Invitational Tournament, which begins today and goes through Saturday. Halil Kanacevic signed a professional contract in Italy and was scheduled to leave today. Langston Galloway and Ronald Roberts Jr. will be in Portsmouth for the 12-game tournament for 64 senior NBA draft prospects.

Galloway finished his SJU career with 1,991 points, second all time, and a program-record 343 threes. He averaged 17.7 points while shooting 44.3 percent from the arc this season.

Roberts averaged a career-best 14.4 points this season. He finished second all time in field-goal percentage at SJU (57 percent) while scoring 1,398 points and getting 861 rebounds. And they will be talking about his dunks as long as they play the game on Hawk Hill.

Penn loses 3 players

Penn was already losing five seniors, including starters Miles Jackson-Cartwright and Fran Dougherty as well as occasional starter Steve Rennard. Three underclassmen will also not be returning - junior forward Henry Brooks, sophomore guard Julian Harrell and freshman guard Tony Bagtas.

That leaves coach Jerome Allen with nine returning players from the final listed roster, including sophomores Tony Hicks and Darien Nelson-Henry, two starters to build around as Allen tries to get the program back on track after going 17-42 the last two seasons.

Dragons' Abif injured

Drexel starting junior forward Kazembe Abif will miss the 2014-15 season due to an ACL injury to his right knee. He averaged 7.2 points and 6.6 rebounds in 16 games.
