Saint Joseph's Calathes, Temple's Tyndale share Big 5 honor

Seniors Pat Calathes, of Saint Joseph's, and Mark Tyndale, of Temple, have been voted the Big 5's Co-Outstanding Players of the Year by the Herb Good Basketball Club.

They will receive the Robert V. Geasey Trophy at the club's 63rd annual banquet on April 21.

Tyndale averaged 15.9 points per game and 7.2 rebounds in 34 games for the Owls, who won the Atlantic 10 Tournament championship. He shot 48.8 percent from the field. He is the first Atlantic 10 player to rank among the league's top 10 in scoring and rebounding and top five in assists and steals.

Calathes averaged 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds for the Hawks. He shot 44.8 percent from the field and 40 percent from the arc.

Joining them on the All-Big 5 first team are La Salle's Darnell Harris, Temple's Dionte Christmas and Villanova's Scottie Reynolds.

The second team includes La Salle's Rodney Green, Penn's Brian Grandieri, Villanova's Dante Cunningham, and Ahmad Nivins and Rob Ferguson, of St. Joe's.

Tickets for the banquet - to be held at Colleen's by Les in the Holiday Inn Stadium, 900 Packer Avenue - can be reserved by calling Matt Beardsley at the Big 5 office (215-898-4747) or Al Shrier at Temple (215-651-1821).

There are aliens in The X-Files: I Want to Believe, but they are not from outer space.

Instead, they come from Russia: a band of demented medicos, descended on West Virginia to participate in some freaky Frankenstein shenanigans - and that's too bad.

The film reunites David Duchovny with Gillian Anderson. It's been six years since the series signed off, 10 since the first film.
