Penn State collected its second oral commitment this week from a four-star defensive tackle, receiving a pledge Thursday from 6-foot-3, 265-pound Aeneas Hawkins of Cincinnati.
Hawkins, who made his commitment public in a video on The Players Tribune website, received offers from more than 30 colleges, including Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Southern California, Michigan, Notre Dame, Georgia, and Florida. The final decision came between Penn State and Cincinnati, where his father played college football.
Hawkins, who plays for Ohio high school power Archbishop Moeller, is the 23rd player to commit to the Nittany Lions’ class of 2018, and improved the team’s overall recruiting ranking to No. 1 on Rivals.com.
On Monday night, the Lions received a commitment from 6-4, 292-pound defensive tackle P.J. Mustipher, of Owings Mills, Md., another four-star recruit.
Scout.com ranks Hawkins as the nation’s 15th-best defensive tackle, while Rivals lists him at No. 18 at the position.
