Penn State elects eight captains for 2017 season

The Nittany Lions announced the names of three of the captains during spring practice, then added five more captains Sunday after a vote of players and coaches.

Penn State announced Sunday the election of eight captains for the 2017 season.

In a vote of players and coaches, the Nittany Lions said those elected were quarterback Trace McSorley, running back Saquon Barkley and wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton on offense; linebacker Jason Cabinda, cornerback Grant Haley and free safety Marcus Allen on defense, and free safety Nick Scott and kicker Tyler Davis on special teams.

McSorley, Cabinda and Scott originally were named captains during spring practice.

All are seniors except Barkley, a junior, and Scott, a redshirt junior.
