Penn State recruit backs out, commits to Michigan

Penn State lost another high school player who had pledged to the freshman Class of 2016 when defensive tackle Michael Dwumfour of Wayne, N.J., announced Monday on Twitter that he had withdrawn his commitment.

Penn State lost another high school player who had pledged to the freshman Class of 2016 when defensive tackle Michael Dwumfour of Wayne, N.J., announced Monday on Twitter that he had withdrawn his commitment.

Hours after writing, "Unfortunately, my heart is somewhere else" and "Happy Valley isn't where I belong," the 6-foot-2, 285-pound Dwumfour announced he had committed to Michigan. He called it "my dream school."

Dwumfour, a three-star recruit who attends DePaul Catholic High School, is the fourth player to back out of a commitment to the Nittany Lions, and the third defensive lineman. Coach James Franklin also has lost Prep Charter defensive end Karamo Dioubate and defensive tackle Christian Colon of Charlotte, N.C.

Dwumfour's decision reduced the number of Penn State oral commitments to 17, with the possibility that Quinn Nordin of Rockford, Mich., rated the nation's No. 1 high school kicker, also could flip to Michigan. National signing day is Feb. 2. - Joe Juliano
