Two more top prospects commit to Penn State

The Penn State football recruiting express continues to roll along with the Nittany Lions holding down the No. 2 spot in the Class of 2015 rankings by a consensus of recruiting websites.

First-year coach James Franklin picked up his 14th and 15th oral commitments Tuesday night in offensive tackle Sterling Jenkins of Pittsburgh and quarterback Brandon Wimbush of Jersey City, N.J.

The 6-foot-8, 305-pound Jenkins, from Baldwin High School, is ranked by 247 Sports as the top high school football player in Pennsylvania. The same website calls the 6-2, 210-pound Wimbush, who plays for St. Peter's Prep, the No. 3 player in New Jersey.

According to Scout.com and 247Sports.com, the Nittany Lions trail only Alabama in the recruiting rankings.

Franklin was in Hershey at a stop on the Penn State coaches' caravan Tuesday night and told a packed house of more than 700: "If my phone rings, I'm answering it," hinting that a recruit might be calling.

Franklin left the stage during a question-and-answer period and returned with a cellphone that he held up to the crowd as he began a "We Are Penn State" cheer. He did not say who was on the other end of the line, but Jenkins said on Twitter that he was the caller.

Both Jenkins and Wimbush were offered scholarships by Ohio State and Nebraska. Jenkins also was sought by Alabama, Michigan, Georgia, and Arizona, while Wimbush received offers from Michigan State, Miami, Maryland, and Tennessee.
